How is the leather quality of a GX460?
Hey everyone,
I own a 2010 Lexus RX350 and the leather quality is really bad. Lots of cracks and tears, it just hasn’t held up well even with care. This was a common complaint in the forums.
What is the leather quality of a GX460? Are there betters years than others?
Thanks!

Here is what is on various trims over the years
Seating Material - Semi-Aniline Leather, Leather or Nuluxe :
‘10-’13 Premium Semi-Aniline Leather
‘10-’13 Base with “Comfort Plus Package” - Semi-Aniline Leather
‘10-’13 Base - Leather
‘14+ Luxury Semi-Aniline Leather
‘14-’18 Premium- Leather
‘14+ Base - Nuluxe
‘19 Premium Leather or Nuluxe depending on interior color choice
'20-'22 Base & Premium - Nuluxe
'20-'22 Luxury Semi-Aniline Leather
That being said the semi-aniline black in my '12 with 76k miles has held up incredibly well. It is in great shape.

That semi-aniline must be the ticket. I have leather (Accru) and it looks pretty creased up an worn in some areas. Not cracked or torn.....yet. I apply leather cleaner and conditioner at least once a month in an effort to preserve it.

I had a 2010 RX before the GX and all Lexus leather from that era seems to get the really bad crease marks that fill with dirt and seem like cracks.
I’ve always hated black interiors on cars but it hides those creases very well. I test drove quite a few GX’s when I was shopping and the beige leather just like on the RX ages really bad because the creases are super noticeable. The black leather gets just as creased but they look great due to the dark color hiding all of the creases. They do seem to be somewhat better quality than the RX leather which seemed almost tissue paper thin.
I’m hoping that the Nuluxe holds up well over time, it’s seems like short term it might not be as supple but it doesn’t crease like leather. I previously had a 2019 RX with the upgraded real leather seats. Beautiful Noble Brown seats with red stitching and after the first week I already had creases in the side bolster.

Semi Aniline is looking great in my 2013, 135,000 miles. I purchased used, with 114k a year and a half ago. I don't do a much as I should for the interior, but do keep seats reasonably clean. I would say on the used market, definitely worth looking for the models with the upgrade package, comes with other nice goodies, too.

I ask because I just commented on how good mine looks, and it's the beige, or ecru, really light interior, 2013 premium. Just trying to help sort out items semi aniline is really the X factor.
I do agree with you on the points about how darker colors present the wear better.

Actually looking at the chart no, I didn’t want the air suspension so all of the ones that I looked at were regular leather.
do you know if the beige was "semi aniline" on those GX's?

I have a Lexus ES 300 2016 model with the ecru leatherette interior. It is a love hate relationship. It is the only thing I don't like about my ES. I hate that it is not real leather but it looks real, still looks good, is easy to clean and is holding up well but if you there are many people are working on Real Leather, In seat covers, Jackets, shoes, belts and more. I need some original leather like Pilot Leather Jacket have material I really loved because I order it and use it so its my thoughts have to change this & I did.

There are several aftermarket companies selling replacement seat covers. Here is one: https://leather-auto-seats.com/
The aftermarket covers do not have the seat heating grid attached to the cover. They say to remove the grid and glue it to the seat cushion.

Here is another option. Haven't purchased from them but I have them saved in my bookmarks just in case.

This is great to know. My wife’s just turned 81k and her driver’s seat is really in need. Mine has twice that in miles and seats look like they are a year old. Hers is a Luxury model with that caramel color. Replacing the seat bottom is not fun but it is doable. It is a shame how cruddy hers has held up because the rest of it is flawless.
