Default Lucas Oil Fuel Additive

I just purchased a 2011 GX460 today. When I went to get gas, I noticed “Premium Only”. I’ve owned several Lexus’ before, but they didn’t require premium. I was told by someone who owns two LS 460 executive series, that if you add Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment with every tank of gas, you don’t need Premium any more and can use 87 with the treatment. You can buy the gallon size of the Lucas Oil fuel treatment and it’s a little over $1.00 per tank vs. $7-$10 more. Is this the case or is it better to just bite the bullet and buy premium?

In my opinion, I would just use premium fuel.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I was reading on an earlier thread that if you use 87 octane, the GX’s engine will adjust to compensate for it. But, the trade off is less power and it also wears on the engine in a negative was. I’m not as well versed in that, though. Have you heard the same?

I'd just fill it with Premium. Premium is just $0.25 more a gallon compared to regular where I live. Some stations in my areas of travel also don't put ethanol in their premium offerings.

Unfortunately I don’t have that option. I think all fuel here is 10% ethanol. To get ethanol free is 87 octane only.

Ironically a lot of the farm CO-OP stations in my area offer ethanol free as well.

Hard to get 93 octane here in GA. Here is a list for all states and Canada.

Well, it is not like we pay $4+ / gallon for regular and add an additional $1+ for premium, LOL! In our area premium is around 2.7-2.9 per gallon.

BTW: Looks like GB marked a moonshine farm in NV on the map, good alternative to premium !

I run 87 in my 2011 GX everyday, zero problems. Usually Costco brand, sometimes Exxon, Shell and occasionally Sams club.

Once in a blue moon I'll put a bottle of that Techron fuel cleaner stuff through all the household cars but that's the extent of my additives.

Short answer do what you want. Its your vehicle, its probs out of warranty, and its basically a Prado designed to last quite well with abuse if filling it with regular is considered it.
Now I figure you came here to ask for some insight, since at the back of your mind, a tiny voice is probably saying i dont trust that dude with not one but two LS460s Executives...since he doesnt really work their and no fiscal responsibility to your automobile....If thats the case, then follow that Tiny Voice and be well. (talking from experience so dont take it personally).
