2017 Gx with 20K miles. Noticed that when I accelerate hard from a stop position, i hear what is a thump toward back of car. Sometimes it sounds like real axel engaging, other times its like something is rolling into back of car from the hard acceleration. It comes about 1/4 second after accelerating. Is that normal?

Rear driveshaft? It's been common in late model Toyotas to have a driveshaft thump when the slip yoke isn't properly lubricated with grease. Toyota supposed "fixed" it, but it could be your issue. If you service your own GX, then try pumping some moly grease into the slip yoke. If not, then ask your servicing dealer to do lube the driveshaft, and let them know you are getting a clunk that might be the driveshaft slipping.
It's not a problem of concern (assuming this is your issue) - just an annoyance.

+1 ....
If reproducible every time you probably want to take into the dealer since under warranty

Good insight as always. Its got 20K and under warranty and it is reproducible so dealer look a good idea. I will check for rolling ***** or cans in the back of course. One thing of note.... had a flat tire on back passenger last month and they struggled getting the spare tire off. Will make sure everything is put away properly.

My son started driving the truck more often now and I sat in the back seat and every time he accelerated I have like hump sound (not a bad bearing) but like a rear end or axel. Anyone with this sound?
