Default FJ/4Runner TRD suspension kit on GX?

Has anyone done this or considered this? I am just wondering if it is possible since there is a <$600 kit.

The weight difference might be a problem. 4Runner is only 4600+lb and GX is 5100+lb. FJ is about 1000lb lighter than the GX.

PTR13-35140 for FJ. It fits on 4runner and $1000 cheaper.
The only concern is weight.

I know it will fit but don't know if 1000lb extra is too much for it.

4Runner is already 500lb heavier than it was designed to handle and GX is even 500lb heavier than the 4Runner.

Just decided to take the risk and ordered the kit for $530. It's already run out of stock according to some 4Runner guys.

Hopefully the 60070 situation won't happen on this one.

Without knowing the specs/part numbers, the FJ may be valved differently than the 4runner/gx. This would only mean a spongy ride and a short life on your shocks. I'd recommend using at least the 4runner setup for safety and durability.

Edit: read thru the T4R thread, I'd just recommend the Dobinson springs to take the load off the shock from the heavier GX and I think you will be good, post up once you get them installed!

Yea, that was also my concern. I decided to take the risk because the price was so annoying.

If it fades or something I will just swap back to the stock ones.

Just being cheap lol, besides nothing to lose

@cicio great deal on the kit, but it doesn't give you a lift. it will stay at stock height just a better ride. it is worth the price for sure to get those shocks alone

I think there is about 1" lift reported by 4runner guys, not sure on the GX though.

"Original height from the center of the hub to the fender was RF 20" LF 19.5", after install they are RF 21" LF 20.5"(both clips on top setting)"

&

Now my measurements are from the ground to the fender, if you want from center of hub to fender than just subtract 15" (distance from center of hub to the ground with my 265 terra grapplers)
Before
LF little less than 34"
RF little less than 34 1/2"
LR little more than 36 1/2"
RR little more than 36 1/2"

After
LF 36 1/4"
RF 35 1/4"
LR little more than 37"
RR little more than 36"

They haven't asked for a VIN yet so I would wait and see.

I don't know which one will be cheaper for you since the shipping cost is from $20 all the way to $80. Just search the part number on google and order from some toyota dealer.

4Runner and the GX are basically the same in terms of frame and suspension so fitment shouldn't be a concern.

Also order some strut mounts if you don't plan to use the old ones.

will the shocks fit the factory springs to help with the weight concern? or are factory springs too narrow? I am torn on ordering the kit. especially since I will be adding even more weight in the summer with a roof top tent and a rack.
I guess i could order a different set of springs to go with the kit but then you are getting up in price defeating the great deal

I have a call in to a local Toyota / Lexus shop that specializes in suspension. hopefully they can sway me one way or the other

For not much more money you can buy the right stuff:

I'd really get an appropriate setup on a $50k car, its only a few hundred more for a better setup and if you take labor costs into account, you will save money only doing it once.

I' assume the shocks will fit on stock springs cuz they look the same diameter from the pic if not larger.
But really doubt if it's any better than the trd ones. (both of those are 4runner stock and 4runner trd but gx spring would be the same size)
