Hey, i got a reminder on my car that its time to replace my engine coolant. I was wondering if i only gotta stay with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant or perhaps i could just go to a local AutoZone instead of a dealer and get equivalent coolant, 50:50 pre-diluted mix instead of driving all the way to the dealer, live quite far from one.

It’s about $20/gal at any Toyota dealer. I would go with OEM for peace of mind.

This is an interesting product. I wonder if it would truly extend the life of a radiator. I have 39k on my 2014 and I'll do a electrolysis test later this evening to see if I am already experiencing this degradation. If so, it would make sense to change earlier.

upon opening the cap there is no fluid. ill call the dealership tomorrow to brag a gallon.
what kind of damage could this have caused, ive been driving the truck since december, no dash lights or codes.

Do you you mean opening the radiator cap or the coolant recovery tank cap? If radiator cap...
- Defective radiator cap could have allowed fluid evaporation
- Coolant valley leak
- head gasket / how does your oil look?
- water pump - see any dried pink crust in the radiator fan area or on the underside skid plate
See any pink crust/residue anywhere?

opened the radiator cap a couple days again and it was wet(signs of moisture), but the reservoir is bone dry.

its does look 'tired', it the same one used on a 4runner? ill pick one up tomorrow if they have one in stock. car has only been off for an hour so im afraid to go check now.

nothing in the areas others have noticed pink flakes

normal no cloudiness

Anything pink you can see underneath on the skid plates or in the areas further back on underside around the AT pan?

Ok soo, on Saturday I pick up some coolant and filled the reservoir tank to the full mark while the engine was at operating temp. New rad cap will be here tomorrow, still no signs of cotton candy.
My question now is, when you open the radiator, should I be able to see the coolant?

On my 2018 GX with 22K miles I noticed that the coolant reservoir is almost empty - just few ounce of pink fluid below the low level line. No dash lights, no known leak on my garage floor. Is GX known to lose coolant so much? Never flushed or topped of coolant yet. Dealer had the car for 20k service last month and after shelling $220 seems like all they did was oil change and rotation. Didn't even do fluid checks given the status of the coolant.
Should I take this for a warranty check on coolant loss or just top it off with OEM coolant from Toyota?

You could always take in and have them check it out or top off and keep an eye on it.
You shouldn't be losing noticeable fluid from recovery tank.
Any residue around the cap? Any on front of motor below the fan? Any pink stains on the skid plate?

Thanks! I'll look in daylight tomorrow.. hopefully it isn't anything big and covered by warranty.
