Breather mods
I haven’t seen any posts regarding rear diff breathers. Is this necessary for the GX, similar to the other Toyota suvs and trucks? I remember seeing this pop up on the 5th gen 4Runner forums.
I don’t have any current plans to go all out modifying the GX... yet. This may be useful for those that are heavily modifying the vehicles.

I'll have to check on mine. Prado 150 forums claim stock rear diff vent is piped up somewhere near the fuel filler door area.

How did I miss that thread? It was fairly recent too. Good info there as well.

There's a breather vent on the top of the rear diff (offset to the driver side IIRC) but it's not routed up high in stock form. Pretty simple mod to add some tubing and extend the breather up to the rear control arm or following the fuel tank filler tube (that's what I did on my 80).
Edit: This is the part I used on my old Tacoma which I bet would still work with the GX: 90404-51319. Install it on the diff, then some 3/8" fuel line up to a high spot, then the breather vent on the top. You could re-use the vent on your axle right now, or buy a new one.

I might extend that one at least. Launching my boat on a beach always the chance I could get water near that vent.

I've seen some bring the extended breather up into the gas filler area as well.

3/8” or 5/16” Fuel hoses shouldn’t make a difference, right? I’ll order the parts online. Currently, don’t feel like making runs out into the world if I don’t need to.

I've seen both fuel hose sizes used on the 4R forums.
I think the following recommends 5/16"
PN: 90404-51319
PN: 90930-03136
Transmission & Transfer Case breathers apparently terminate up against the firewall behind engine somewhere.
