Just left the dealer after handing them some checks for my wife's new GX. I'll take her after work to go pick it up. She thinks we're going to poke around a 2014 version but for the relatively small difference between a used '14 with 60k on it and a new '18, it was an easy-ish decision. (handing over that kind of money is never easy for me)

She currently drives my old 2004 4runner which i handed down when i picked up my Tundra a couple of years ago. The 4R has been awesome and will be difficult for us to sell since we're so sentimentally attached to it. While we had that car, we got engaged, married and had our first (and only) kid, it reliably carried us around while we made memories. Hopefully someone else will get to have a similar story with it.

While we looked at lots of SUVs and were sorely tempted with the Cayenne, the GX won hands down in terms of reliability & resale value. I've had 2 4runners now and they've been pretty much indestructible apart from regular maintenance and do-date, my Tundra has been nothing but awesome, so you could say we're loyal to the brand. I was also (pleasantly) surprised that my wife chose the older style interior over a newer gadget laden RX.

Congrats - But if your kid is soon-to-be-able-to-drive then you can keep the 4Runner for the kid. It was so difficult to find a decent 4Runner (mileage and money wise) for my boy when I was looking for his 1st vehicle.

Luckily, she's 5 months old so I'm safe to let it go. I agree with you though, decent versions are rare as rocking horse poop. If I ever see the unicorn i'm looking for, of a 2008, V8, 4WD with low miles, I'll buy it to use as a play thing. Sadly, with gas prices where they were back then, they didn't sell many of the 8 bangers.

If the GX is even half the vehicle that was, I'm happy. It was the most capable thing out there, snow, mud, sandy beaches, rain, highway cruncher, it could just do it all with ease & comfort. Luckily i have the truck now for some of those duties and we'll use this for the highway cruncher duties so it will be staying bone stock.

I think after TD's wifey gets in that new '18, she might let him procreate again and won't have just 1 kid! LOL JK (Welcome to the forums and enjoy your GX ownership!)

My friend who has a 2013 told me "it's the best swiss army knife on the market today" and convinced me to get one as well; congrats and welcome!
