Default Bilstein 5100's with Stock Height Control?

Front shocks are shot on the GX, and as much as I want to keep the AVS functional, $220/shock for Toyota shocks is pretty salty. Has anyone gone to Bilsteins for a 4Runner and kept the height control in place - any concerns with that combination? Off hand, I'm thinking it's fine, but could be overlooking something.

Also, does anyone happen to know if disconnecting the shock AVS connectors triggers something on the dash? I would expect so with the height control, but am hoping the AVS isn't monitored by anything.

I've heard of some doing that. I think someone here did it but can't remember details offhand.

I've seen some of the kits talk about installing some passive resistors. I assume these go into the old AVS plugs.
