Too cheap to pass up, image can’t be worse than OEM. Just not sure of the 6v to 12v issue

Specs say 9v-14v, not sure it will work but I’ll try it for $12.99. Just bought it.

that means the aftermarket is designed for 12v. the lexus uses a switched 6v (not PWM). you can either connect to a different 12v source or use a relay/transistor from the 6v to control the 12v.
if i remember correctly the 6v switches on when in reverse, this keeps cameras from being powered all the time in an effort to increase life
theres also 6 to 12 v boost converters (like boost configuration SMPS)

Actually, the 6v to camera is constantly on (ACC controlled) with the camera. Based from my experiences with Beatsonic project and try out of Tesla Style console, the video signal is always available regardless the shift position. The reverse signal only trigging the switch for display.

I really dont remember anymore. Somewhere when I did my camera work I kept some notes. I thought the power was switched with the shifter to the accessory meter, then that meter powered the camera.

still need to get to 12v from 6v. theres different options:
direct wire to a 12v source
use a relay, which if the cameras always powered then this is the same as a direct wire
use a boost config SMPS inline. this might be easiest

boost config SMPS example:

I have used one of those:
Amazon Amazon
directly tapped from ACC power to the camera.

Are these both basically the same? If so then the cheaper the better I guess. I appreciate both of your inputs and links to purchase on Amazon. The camera gets delivered Monday so I’ll wait for your response on which one to buy. When I have both parts I’ll head to my buddy that is much better at this stuff then me to install, I will post pics. Thanks again.

I have used one without heatsink for my front and both side OEM cameras for my surround view mod, has been over a year, no problem at all. Consider the low wattages for the camera, heatsink is not really necessary.

Ok, so the cheaper one. I know one says step up and the other says step down, that may also be in what direction it’s installed.

it is step down from 12 to 6. the device has clear indicate the input is 12v only! it can not be used for invert 6v to 12v.

Thx, it may take a couple weeks to get my guy to attempt. I could try but really don’t want to screw anything up.

I agree, and I’m in the beginning stages of substituting an inexpensive aftermarket camera that has the guidelines incorporated into the camera, with adjustable guide lines. You will also need a 12v to 6v converter due to the OEM setup being 6v.
