Default injector failure at 5k miles

I took my car in for 5k mile service. While I was there, I told the tech to look at the long crank issue for me. Randomly, the car would take a long time to turn over. I would say once or twice a week that it does that. Well, after holding the car at the dealership over the weekend, the tech has found that the injectors were leaking. He doesn't know which specific injector was failing except for that the injection test was failing due to a leak somewhere within. They will replace all 8 injectors. That surprises me a bit since i always thought long crank is usually cause by bad battery or starter. It's even more puzzling that the injectors would fail this early! the car only has 5k miles.

Oh wow Tuan! glad that you found out and the dealer is replacing them. It would be bad if they fail away from home. How long were the delayed cranks? A few seconds? Did it start with the first try with the delay or you had to re-crank again?

Are they also replacing the plugs?

the delayed crank was around 5-10 secs. When it did happen, it could usually get it crank with first try. Only twice that I had to re-crank again. I don't think they replace the plugs. I checked the plug last week before I brought my car in, the plugs still looks as if they're new.

Maybe also ask for an oil change just in case some fuel leaked into the oil. Just to flush everything out since it's still so new.

Sorry to hear about that, Tuan. Hopefully, it will be fixed just like new (or better in this case)

Beside the long crank time, did you experience any other symptoms? Like, RPM flutuation, vibrations, lost power, etc?

GoHuskers, there are no other symptoms like you mentioned that I could tell besides the long crank time. Dont be sorry, I used to own few beamers so I have a very high tolerance on these kind of car problems I don't plan on giving up on the GX at all. I guess my GX must have gotten a bad batch of injectors.

It's good it failed early on if it was going to do it. Nice they will swap all 8 even though is likely just one. Another thing that could cause flooding is a bad pressure regulator but I don't know if that is very common on EFI motors.

The system should keep a positive fuel pressure in the lines. Even when shut down for a long period of time. There is a check valve between the tank and injectors or regulator to do that. That allows for a cleaner quick start. If either leaks down, then the pump must run long enough to build up pressure at the injectors to start. On many cars, the fuel filter is at the tank, and contains the check valve. On some its contained at the regulator. I'm not sure on the gX, I've never changed one. But long crank times would be an indication that fuel pressure is being lost someplace while shut down.
