OEM Crossbar Roof Rack Utility Clamps

I set up my eBay awning using similar DIY clamps.
Anyone knows if you can mount a set of recovery boards on them? What kinds of brackets do you need?

Awesome. Thanks, will look into that. Maybe that and bungee cords would hold. Lol

Set up the Ironman awning this morning, took a little while to figure out how to do it solo, but I have the hang of it now. The canvas is pretty thick and looks to be quality, and I like the flexible joints of the poles. The dimming LED light strip is a nice feature as well. It will prob be a 2 man job if it was windy out though, may need the extra set of hands.

The only potential issue I see with the awning is the connection between the pole and the awning edge. You can see in the pic how thin the metal is here and how it is already slightly bent. I may just use those existing surrounding screws to secure a reinforcing metal bracket of sorts

Anybody else having problems like me where the utility clamps and bolts at the bottom are VERY close to the roof, pretty much touching? I see a few photos in the thread that show large spaces between the clamps and the roof, even when the clamps are positioned all the way outboard....if I did that, it would definitely touch the roof. Are you guys running the Lexus OEM cross bars? Maybe something changed.....I bought them recently for my 2016 and put them in the recommended positions along the rails. It's even worse at the front cross bar since the roof line curves towards the middle of the car, so I have to position the clamp even further inward.

I don't remember experiencing that issue on mine but I do have those 3rd party bars. I bought them years ago not knowing the difference when I first got my 460 and they have held up.
My application brings them further inward. I know that doesn't help your case but may explain why I never it saw it with mine.

Oh wow that is very close. They look like they would touch the roof with some load. I always thought the bottom piece are threaded instead the nuts on the other end.

The fit and finish on these clamps are really nice, super solid. I think they were originally designed for the 470 so there's a lot more space between the cross bars and the roof. It happens that I'm trying these on a 460 with OEM cross bars so they are very flush and low to the roof. Steve from SBE Precision is going to get the bottom pieces adjusted to see if we can get a bit more clearance. He's been very helpful.
A threaded bottom piece would definitely do it, but would probably require some kind of lock washer or loctite.

Just an update - Steve @ SBC Precision saw my post here about how close the bottom bracket bolts/nuts came to the roof and special made some adjustments to the lower bracket for me. Awesome support from him. So much clearance now and its a lot simpler to put together. If you're looking for these for your GX460 with Lexus OEM cross bars, let him know ahead of time that they are for the low hanging Lexus OEM cross bars. Very solid mounts, I'm probably going to get more.
