Sorry... I may have posted this in the wrong thread. Some would like ML level system retrofit.

Infotainment issue
Tried to search could not find any others experiencing the same issue. My head unit doesn't boot up when the car is started. I takes from between 3 - 10 minutes for it to boot and once it does it operates fine. Before it boots the screen is completely black and none of the functions work with the exception of the reverse camera. I've tried all the common remedies including battery test (Battery is OEM and only 18 months old) and battery disconnect with no success. I'm hoping to resolve this without having to buy a refurbished unit for $2500. Does anyone have any experience with this?
BTW: It's a 2014 GX460 with the Mark Levinson stereo.

Navigation System Navigation
I’ve tried searching the forums and google and can’t find anything that tells me what generation navigation system is in a 2019 GX460. Does anyone know? The chart on Lexus website only shows up to 2018 GX460.

Navigation/Map Update
I am absolutely confused over the information online and contacting my dealership. What is the difference between a Navigation update and a Map update, or is there one? Lexus website says the latest version in 18.1 and is still the latest yearly update current as of spring 2022. So why are people buying and installing the new SD card yearly? Someone please help me understand.
I have a 2019 GX 460 which has GEN 8

Navigation/Map Update
So, has there been an update to the maps since 2018? On the Lexus website it states that as of Spring 2022 the 18.1 is the newest map update available for purchase.

Here is a dealer link to the LEX8 current map update. “LEX8” is all GX460 Nav units from 2014 to 2021.
GEN8-V21NavMap
I updated my maps to V20 in Nov 2020. I purchased it online from this dealer.
The current part number is PT219GEN0821. The card costs $250. You simply replace the current SD card with the new one. I recommend googling the part number because you will likely find a dealer selling it at a lower price but consider availability and shipping into the whole equation.
My maps were 4 years old. I paid a bit less than the current price. It was worth it to me, once.
I have since installed the Beat Sonic wireless CarPlay system and won’t be updating my OEM Nav maps again.

One other thing to consider before purchasing the 21 update SD is that annual map updates are usually issued in the late fall. Unless I needed the update immediately I would wait a bit to see if 22 gets released in the next month.
You can use the same link to check. If a new update is released it will show it (Expect it to be PT219GEN0822) superseding the 21.
