Meh, no luck. Bought a code reader, which works very well. Our mechanic charged fifty bucks just to tell us one us one of the codes, now I can see codes all day for free.

The codes are 2432, 2433, 2438, and 0418, all of them related to the secondary air system.

And the codes can be successfully erased, at least according to the tool. But they come right back and the car stays in Limp Mode.

So with air pump disconnected and then a code reset it still stays in limp mode?

You are also leaving the air pump disconnected as well?

Yes, I've unplugged the pump and left it unplugged. I also unplugged the electrical connection from the two valves, and that allowed the car to start with no code errors. But it still stayed in limp mode, and the errors quickly returned.

Have you tried it with only the pump unplugged? I went into limp every day, when I only unplugged the pump it stopped the limp.

Yes, I tried that first. I only unplugged the valves after just unplugging the pump didn't work.

At this point we've already lost a day's pay from missing work, missed our dealership appointment, spent $50 on a mechanic to tell us an error code, spent $90 on an OBD code reader/reset tool, the car is probably worse than when it started (a wire pulled out of a valve harness), and just the gas to drive to the dealer and back home would cost $60. So...

Would you guys just order one of the secondary air bypass kits? Or continue jumping through these hoops to get the vehicle to a dealer?

Sorry to hear...might be some other issue at play here too. Disconcerting that air pump unplugged didn't get it out of limp mode. I thought I remember a couple others with this working. Saw it originally working on Tundra forums as well. I pulled the foam out of mine and did the uni filter mod.

I'd probably let Lexus do the fix on it but order a bypass kit as well. I think that is what tecman did. Peace of mind of not happening again is hard to put a price on.

+1...if I was in the area I would help you out. I have a AAA RV level membership. I think they will tow 150 miles for free. I have this since they cover towing your trailers as well if you have a breakdown.

IMO... it is pretty absurd the fail logic puts vehicle into limp mode for this failure. This emission system only runs for a short period at startup. Not positive but I think logic was changed on '14+ models.

I should have pre-faced with speculation. Hewitt Tech mentioned to me that some of the post '14 related TSB re-flashes were speculated to run system on shutdown although I wonder what value that would be on a hot engine. Still curious what is different about the '14+ valves to prevent issues as we know all failures are not from the foam filter. The differences you posted about for the air pump casing and cover are obvious.
