Buying a GX460
Hey Guys, I own a 2007 IS250 AWD and my mother would like to purchase a Lexus as well. She doesn't like the RX nor the NX model. She does however loves the GX460 and we found one in our price range but not sure if its a good deal. I'm not sure what kind of cons I should be looking for this generation of GX's. There is no car accidents that is showing on the carfax but I'm not sure if the first owner had it for personal lease if that matters?
This is the car I was looking at

Was looking at this one to but apparently it had a car accident so we decided not to pursuit it.

Thanks in advance!

What does she drive now?
The GX 460 has proven solid and reliable as with the Toyota/Lexus legacy, so there are no major concerns with buying used from my perspective. As it gets near and above 100k, there will be some additional maintenance items to consider, but a well maintained GX will serve you for many years.
The potential cons are the body on frame SUV, which rides different than a unibody/car/crossover style. The V8 is pretty thirsty. Some people complain about seat comfort and leather that wears out too soon. And I'd check the history on the vehicle you want to buy and see if it's had the secondary air intake warranty/TSB item done. Lexus is covering it to 150k miles, so you'd be fine either way, but it would be one less hassle to deal with.

I agree. There would be more similarities with the Odyssey and MDX. The most noticeable aspect IMO is the size of the front end/hood. The MDX has the V6 mounted sideways so that the front end is short and slopes down. The GX has a taller and longer hood, which makes it feel bigger when driving. My wife loves the GX so it's certainly feasible that yours will too.
Regarding the secondary intake work, I'm pretty sure you can take it to Lexus at any time to have the work done. You don't have to wait until it fails.

She actually like both cars haha. Both of my aunt own a GX 470 so she is very familiar with the driving. We actually found a MDX with Advanced Package http://www.lakelandcarco.com/2014-Ac...8/Details.aspx for the same price. I think both cars are good either way! I actually would love her to get a 2012 GX 460 since I'm bias with Lexus but I know for sure Acura reliability is also up there since its made by Honda!
