I know that driveshaft clunk was a common problem on the 4runners(currently own one), and the solution was simply greasing zerks on the shaft about every other oil change seemed to rectify that.

Hey all, it seems like I’ve been in the market for a GX for the better part of a decade but I’m finally getting serious about replacing my current vehicle by the end of the year. That said, I’m cross shopping a few models on the used market and the GX (2014+) is definitely on the list since even though it’s getting a bit long in the tooth, it checks most if not all required boxes for my new car: V8, body on frame, 4WD (instead of AWD), availability of common safety tech (blind spot, adaptive cruise, lane departure, etc) in a luxury or pseudo luxury SUV or truck body.
I’m pretty steadfast in what I’m looking for, and yes, I realize that this is a near Unicom configuration that might take a while to find: 2014+ GX luxury with the driver support package and OEM trailer hitch. I’m curious to hear what you owners would consider some common red flags to look for while I’m out there shopping?
What’s the expected longevity of the air suspension and even though this is a Lexus/Toyota product what’s the OEM extended warranty/service plan market look like?
I appreciate any insight and/or suggestions from all of you owners - thanks in advance!

Don’t worry about the OEM tow hitch during your search. You can always add the OEM on later for $280-300+ labor (if you aren’t DIY). It might even be better without one on there. Then you’ll know it wasn’t used for towing.
I don’t think there’s much issues to focus on with the 14+ years. I believe the 10-13 were the ones with that issue.
If you have front end noise, it’s probably the rubber hood stops.
Someone on here said airbags were only a couple hundred in the aftermarket. It might have been Acrad
You might want to be on the lookout for any rust on the frame.

Air bag failure seems to be pretty rare on 460s. It may be due to the fact there are far less models than the 470s which all had them. I've only heard of one or two reports.
Actually fairly inexpensive to replace if you go aftermarket.
The air pump failure is common on the '10-'13s but fortunately free fix from Lexus.
Here is a good list of things to check on as they could affect all model years. Someone mentioned shopping a '14 on GXOR that had what sounded like the timing chain cover leak.

The items listed in that thread are easy for anyone to see with a good flashlight. Through the wheel wells on each side and down the front side of motor.

Another item that should be added to this thread is the AIP system is a customer on-demand repair for 10-13 models.
If you are looking at those years check Lexus maintenance records to confirm status of that repair.

Is this thread specific to 2010-2013s only?

AIP issues should be far less on '14+ but those valves can still go bad. I've seen the other issues reported on late model Tundras as well. I think last time I looked someone reported a '18 Tundra having a cam tower leak.
Other concerns
Coolant Valley Leak
Transfer Case Leak
