If anyone is interested in Mishimoto developing an all aluminum radiator for the 460 I encourage you solicit your interest here.

I just selected one of the other Lexus vehicles so I could submit the feedback form -
https://www.mishimoto.com/contact/

They are not cheap but are made here in US and have a "lifetime warranty including accident protection".

Default Coolant leak ( not in the valley )

So I noticed a fair amount of coolant on my driveway and so after further investigation I found the following.

It's only on the drivers side and the source appears to be coming from the hose. Nothing visible coming from the cap or any where else on the motor. Could it be a radiator leak? Or is this one simple

Thank you for any help gentleman

You need to take the hose off and check but it is more likely that your radiator is cracked than your hose is leaking. If you radiator is cracked you can use some plastic bond epoxy to stop the leak and it's time to order a new one. If the rubber hose is split then you can try to cut off the damaged part, reattach it and order a new one. Keep us posted.

Looking at your pictures the plastic side tank on the rad is connected to the aluminum core with the metal crimp strip. It looks like that is not crimped next to the hose fittings, is that where it is leaking from? If so rad needs replacing.

The source of the leak is not definitive from the pics. The radiator is most likely culprit. There is a rubber seal between the plastic and metal seam/joining. The thermal stresses cause the two surfaces to expand/constrict at different rates. Eventually, a leak develops. It is a common leak area; happened to our 98 Sienna and ES350.

Yes, the radiator fails in that location ... visually appears to be the upper hose interface to the radiator, but is typically a (weeping) separation (broken seal) between the black plastic end tank and the metal core of the radiator. It is somewhat common for these radiators to fail per the above in the 120,000+ mile range.

UPDATE : The radiator was cracked on the plastic portion that connects to the upper hose. Got a quote from my local AD for radiator and water pump replacement for 1800 pre-tax. Got a second from a toyota dealer for 1500. Brought it to the toyota dealer and once I got home I noticed something strange and hopefully you guys can help me on this now

All parts were claimed to be Lexus OEM from the Lexus dealer that I got the first quote from but ummmmmm somethings fishy.

TAKE NOTE: I payed a premium for them to use the parts from the Lexus dealership

Notice how far away the fan housing sits from the radiator. Its a tough angle but its over an inch of space ( you can see day light ) compared to the OEM in the OP.

Completely different cap as well

Default What else to do with radiator replacement

Hi Everyone,
So my radiator popped a leak at about 105k miles (basically this thread). I was thinking about doing some other maintenance, while stuff was out, but I wanted to run it by the hive mind to make sure I am not crazy. I understand the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it mantra", but I also appreciate the "preventative maintenance" one too; so I want to strike a balance. So here is what I am thinking (along with some questions), please tell me if something likely isn't needed or if I am missing something:
  • Radiator replacement - absolutely necessary - PN 16400-38290 (which is like 4 generations past what is currently on my vehicle)
    • Upper Radiator Hose (inspect first) - PN 16572-38151
    • Lower Radiator Hose (inspect first) - PN 16571-38101
    • Clips x4 - Do I need to do these? - PN 90466-A0026
    • Add coolant
  • Thermostat - PN 16031-0S010
    • does not look like a gasket or o-ring is needed
    • Hose and clips are mentioned on radiator
  • Water Pump - PN 16100- 09525
    • looks like the gasket comes with it
    • Hose and clips are mentioned on radiator
  • Fan Clutch - PN 16210-38082
  • Idler Pulley - PN 16603-38012
    • Not sure that this is needed
  • Tensioner Assembly - PN 16620-0S012
  • V-Belt - PN 90916-A2033
  • Transmission Cooler Install - yes, its a nice to have, but since I am messing with the transmission hoses on the radiator, might as well get some added cooling. I am not sure how much transmission fluid I need to add. Anyone have any ideas?
  • Spark Plugs - PN 90919-01191

Not parts replacements but to do:Here is where I found diagrams for part numbers.

Thanks all,
Dazed

Ps. I didn't bother to cross-post on MUD, but I may later. If I do, I will link.

Welp, I managed to do a duplicate thread and my quest to have fun with a rickroll, just put it front and center. Sometimes this interface is a pain.

Thanks Acrad, I missed that post, despite being a sticky, before.
Any thoughts on my list above? Is it overkill? Just right? What about the fan pulley along with the clutch?

If it was my truck I'd replace only the radiator and spark plugs, other components as need after inspection. Upper rad hose goes bad 2x as fast as the lower due to more heat exposure. The 'stat does have a gasket 16326-38010 you don't need to replace the hose clamps. Don't know the capacity of the oil cooler.

Fan clutch is debatable but if doing all the work yourself and already have it all open not a bad idea for maintenance.

Not sure how much AT fluid is resident in the radiator. You could cap off after disconnecting lines and measure it post removal of radiator.

IIRC the external AT cooler takes around 6-8 ounces of fluid.
