Default Noise at around 65-75 mph

Hey guys posting for a friend, he recently traded in his 2006 GX and got a pre-owned Premium 2014 GX. Today we went on a hiking trip and took his car. When we were heading back from the hike it happened a few times around 70mph plus or minus a few, it would sound as if the chain thats holding the spare tire was hitting the road, it was on and off for a few minutes and then it stopped and in like 20-30 mins it started again for a few minutes and stopped and didnt occur again. we pulled over at the rest stop the spare is attached properly and secure, the chain is far from the ground. What could it be? His GX did not come CPO and his warranty is about to run out or already ran out, im not sure and neither is he apparently. Any ideas or maybe anyone has had a similar thing? it was a dull sound, at first i thought it was a whistle but then it was on and off as if the chain was touching the ground, for a few seconds and let go and then few seconds again and let go and repeat like that, we had to turn off the radio to actually hear it on an okay level.

Hmmm, a couple of things come to mind most noteably the hood bumper stops. It seems to be a common issue that creates a rattling noise...not sure if that could be described as a chain noise but it is somewhere to start. When the hood is latched closed, either forward edge should be even with adjacent fender. Additionally, the leading edge of the hood should not move up or down - it should be securely locked into place. Open the hood and look for the rubber bumpers in either corner on the front edge. They screw in and can be adjusted easily.

If it is not the hood, be advised the tire jack routinely comes loose and will rattle around. It will sound like the rear door's latch and/or locking mechinism is coming loose. I don't think it should be related to a speed of 60-70mph, but it is certainly another area that should be looked into.

Hes an older person who is not very friendly with the internet, lets put it that way, he did not have such experience with his old GX primarily because in what, almost 12 years he did only around 90k miles on it, he owns a store 10 mins from his house, that was all of his commutes, this is like one of his first longer trips ( about 2 hour drive from Brooklyn )

@Dave thank you, i will tell him to get that checked out
