Default BFGoodrich KO vs. KO2 vs. Rugged Terrain

I have a set of older KO's on a K5 Blazer and a set Rugged Terrain on my sons 06' 4Runner. The KO's are fine for the old Blazer but I don't think I would like them on my GX460. The Rugged Terrain on the 4Runner have a nice ride and are much better than the stock tires that came on it.

I've seen a few pics of the newer KO2's on GX460's and the owners seem to like them. They look good but may be a little too aggressive for me, not sure yet. Does anyone have any experience with the Rugged Terrain on a GX460?

Default BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2

So, I've decided to go with the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2.

I'm sure it's been talked about and probably talked about again and again, but I couldn't find it....

What's the largest size that will fit on the 2012 GX460 without rubbing or modifications.

I plan on using the stock wheels.

Thank-you!

Yes, 265/65/18 should fit without any issues at all. I'm running 275/65/18 and had to remove a liner bolt and massage the liner w/ a heatgun in a few spots.

When you get your BF KO's pls post a picture to the forum if you don't mind. I'm trying to reconcile the rugged look of the KO's with the GX's sporty finesse.

i love KO's...have a set on my diesel rig but haven't come across any pics of them on a GX.

TIA

hows the ride quality compared to the factory tires? I'm debating if I should get dedicated offroad tires vs KO2's

there is definitely a difference. its not as smooth as factory. i do have trouble keeping them balanced. it is fine for city speeds but highway speeds i get a little shake. i only had the car though about 3 weeks before putting these on so i didn't have much time to get used to it
these have no road noise, still average around 16mpg (according to the headsup display). can get me to most of the camp spots i want to go to. i have had these since February, put 8,000 miles on so far and only used 1/32 of the tread.

Thanks Leftyguns!
On tirerack there was a KO review of a hunter with an X5 that would drive fireroads with a crushed granite bed. KO's were the only AT tire tough enough to not puncture yet he still called his handling superb on highways and twisties. (Porsche 911 owner as well). Don't know if he upsized though.

FYI - in researching before our purchase, I've read some of these GX's have trouble keeping balance even with regular tires. Its an endemic issue apparently that makes it into carfax notes. If you bought used, you might check your history...

Balance issues are the reason I'm in the market.

Had the front end aligned and tires balanced, (at dealer),week or so later, wife is driving the truck and the steering wheel was so out of whack.....

Now they say I need new tires cause of road force balance.

So maybe I'll have to invest in new wheels too??

Hey leftyguns, how bad is the shaking at highway speeds??

Hoping to retire at the beginning of the year and do some cross-country camping/road trips, so really need these tires to be "great"...??

Thanks!

discount tire says the same about balance on these vehicles. its noticeable but def not a deal breaker or annoying. i dont really start feeling the shake until around 65mph+.
it is worth it to me to get the durability of these tires. i had them on my 4Runner too, i took that on some narly roads with no issues. aired down to 20-25psi it road real nice on rough terrain.

Would these minor annoyances with balancing or vibrations with the KO2 be related to the “C” or “E” load rating of the tire? Is that something to consider?

For me, after a lot of researching I chose the “C” load but have yet to install them as I’m still waiting for my new wheels and I will be running a 265/70-17 on a 17x8.5 -10 offset.
