Default New Tires: Huge Price Difference - need help

Hi,

I've been following this forum for awhile, but decided to sign up because I have a question.

Looking to replace stock Bridgestone Duelers at 31k miles (just not happy with them). I prefer Michelin tires when I do buy.

So I went down to Discount Tire because I was comparing these two tires below and couldn't figure out why theres a $100 difference per tire, when the cheaper one is a better tire than the Bridgestones I have on the GX460 now, but there isn't much of a difference in the two below.

So what am I missing? I'm scratching my head. I look to be walking out the door for $744 for 4 of the $145 tires, certificates from DT, installs, etc. Or I can walk out even $92 less if I remove the tire certificates.

Is the Michelin Premier LTX a good tire for the GX460? We live in Texas and don't need much for snow/ice. If not, what other Michelin tire is recommended?

$145 - Michelin Premier LTX 265 /60 R18 110T SL BSW CM - https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tir...er-ltx/p/31351

$246 - Michelin Premier LTX 265 /60 R18 110V SL BSW - https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tir...er-ltx/p/31474

The more expensive tire is a V rated tire vs T rated. The only time you will need to install a V rated tire is on a sports car that you plan on driving at very high speeds.

Go with the T rated tire. Michelin will be a great tire.

I would (and did!) get the Michelin Defender LTX M/S. They are a bit more “mud and snow” than the Premier but last forever.

First - You don't need V-speed rating tires (up to 149 mph). I will never drive my GX pass 120 mph so T-speed rating is good enough (up to 118 mph).

Second - The Premier LTX is a nice, grippy, and quiet tire but its tread depth is only 8.5 so I doubt it will last anything close to 60k miles. The tires already show wear on my 2017 RX350 (which is 700 lbs lighter than the GX460) with less than 7000 miles. On the other hands, the Dedender LTX on my GX460 (tread depth is 12 or 13) with about 6000 miles and I hardly see any wears on it.

Someone reported that there's a speed limiter on the GX at 110mph. I have had it up to an indicated 110 but not hit a limiter. Regardless, I think 118mph is probably plenty.

I just put on a full set of Michelin Defender LTX and I love them! Great in rain, dry, quiet and very nice ride. Improved the ride on the GX by quite a bit. For reference, I had the horrible OEM Bridgestone D840s and they lasted (barely) 30,000 miles. I expect double that from these Defenders. Great tire!

I had thought about the Premiere, but too many reviews show pretty clearly it just doesn't last as long as the Defender. Look at tire review websites and see.

For those with LT tires, are they really that huge of difference in term of comfort? Thinking of going with KO2's and it seems that they are only LT tires.
