If you haven’t already, open up your cabin and engine air filters. If they are making a nest that’s where it will be.

Fixed at the dealership, under $1300, including towing. Engine is running great. They gave me a loaner all week, kept me updated daily and let me pick up my GX the following morning at my own leisure. Thanks to all for the info.

Have you tried to ask Lexus to cover at least part of the cost? This is a known problem with Toyotas:

No, I don’t think the dealership was going to give me any discounts on this one. If you can afford a luxury vehicle you better be ready to afford what is associated with keeping it running.

Glad to see you got it fixed.
So what is the preventive method from it happening again? Putting traps around the car each night?

The dealership won't give you a discount but Lexus Corporate may cover part of the cost specially that they have a class action lawsuit pending. This has nothing to do with being able to afford the maintenance and repair cost of a vehicle as this is a manufacturing defect and a known, documented problem.

Also will be interesting to see what you think the 5th time you will have to tow your "luxury" SUV to the dealership for extensive repairs and what you'll think when trying to sell the vehicle with a service history like that!

Hopefully it won't happen in the future though!

There were mice in my garage once and I've found out it after finding a dead mouse near a chewed fridge cord. It's really easy to get rid of them using some poisonous stuff I've found in this article. But the method that really helped me out then is TomCat bait station - really effective and safe for pets (I have a dog and it's important to me).

Environmental stupidity is the reason to blame for this happening a lot more often.

They had to make rubber in the wires more "biodegradable" so they had to start using soy. It makes the wires have a flavor rats love.

There's even a class action lawsuit over it, it's causing massive damage. It's not isolated incidents.

Default Electrical tape

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2017 GX460 premium last week and found this site to head off any glaring issues with the vehicle before I purchased. Is this something that could be prevented by wrapping all visible wiring in electrical tape? Sorry if this is a stupid question!

i have read reports of people using dryer sheets to keep them out of the engine bay along with cayenne , peppermint oil, etc..

I am willing to take any preventative measures necessary to save my wiring harness if anyone has any foolproof methods.

they dont like to chew through aluminum tape, could put that over the wires. else the tomcat baits work well.
