Yeah the brake pedal just has lots of travel in it. My wife had a GS and it was similar- she calls it “Lexus brakes”.

there are numerous related threads here about this topic. Yes, the brake is spongy. My 18' GX lux does the same thing. It's pretty normal, just need to get used to it

x2

The brakes are one of the biggest things I had to adjust to coming from Brembos.

I intend to take the new truck back to the dealership, along with our old trusty 470 so they can compare. But, please comment so I can get an idea on how to pursue this.

Thank you.
As always cant be the judge of brakes until you try another exact vehicle. Drive down to the local dealership, and try another GX and see if the similarities exist. Instant verification.

I have a 2015 luxury same thing, I almost thought something is wrong with the brakes; but had driven a few GX460s its a normal thing. You just have to get used to it. The LX570 brakes feel much more responsive and tighter feeling.
Whenever I go back to the GX I have to relearn to apply brakes just a bit more / pedal all in.
I think it's a normal way of how these GX460 brakes work.

Same experience ... 2008 GX470 with 139,000 miles ... new 2019 GX460 ... brakes on GX460 require more pedal pressure. Also, the accelerator pedal requires more "pedal" to get the same engine response as the GX470 ... discussed in other posts that recommend "Pedal Commander".

Common issue:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...-problems.html

It takes getting used to (we came from a gx470 also) but overall the car stops well. It’s just holding it at idle that seems to be problematic. There are a couple of threads that discuss it but overall the consensus is that you get used it.

Default Gx460 Brake issue - sudden braking

I bought a 05 luxury / all options last year, had about 20k miles on it. Been to Florida and TX once, less than 6 months of ownership and 15k miles later. I have had this issue 2 times, most recently today. This is my wife car but I usually drive it around.

The issue:

There is a car in front of me, and I am coming to a stop slowly like you usually do. I usually had kids in car so I start braking slowing earlier to avoid any sudden jerkiness. So I am coming to a stop the car tries to stop suddenly/ adruplty ..but not a full halt. Almost like someone braked half way to slow the car down for you.

The PCS light do not go off, not sure if its the PCS acting up. but there is about 3 car length distance between the Car in front and speed is slow when this happens. there is no danger of hitting the car in front of me at all.
I was searching online and unable to find any problem like this with the GX.

Do you have Radar Cruise option or some sort of collision detection by chance?

I do, but the light for PCS do not come . There have been instances where I was too close to the car in front and it alerts me but I correct the path or brake.

this happens when I am easing into stopping, again it’s had happened only 2 times last 15k miles but when it does it little scary.

Do you mean a 2015 GX? If so, has the windshield been replaced? There are threads on people loosing the ability to brake etc, after replacing the windshield with aftermarket screens and not OEM.

It has oem windshield. Full service history ; solid car.
I am at loss..I am going to take to Lexus soon.

No no codes or anything, maybe a full brake bleed might help?

This has happen to me as well a couple of times. I have a 2011 base. My issue is normal breaking over uneven road/pothole or train tracks and the ABS is activated with a rumble but it’s like it brakes hard at first then releases which adds more distance before full stop. It doesn’t happen often but like the poster says it’s friggin scary. It literally takes control of the brakes then suddenly gives it back.
