Default TPMS replacements

2011 Gx with 79780 miles and in need of new TPMS. Light was on for a dead TPMS battery so I replaced all 5 tires with Mobiletrons TPMS from Amazon $116 delivered for all 5. I had them installed at DirectTire for $210 out the door programmed and relearned. $326 total isn’t bad compared to estimate from NTB for $668. Anyone else replacing TPMS on 2011’s?

I replaced the stock ones in my '07 G35x at 11 years. There was one that died early in it's life but overall they may have had a year or two more life in them.

I think average live of sensors is 5-8 years. I purchased a set of 4 OEM sensors from eBay that cost around $150. Costco installed them while mounting the new X-ice tires on my winter set. I programmed them myself at home for free with TS.

Correct. In general, the sensors are expected to last between 5 and 10 years. The battery life is dependent on three things - time, mileage and heat. The sensors are only active when the wheels are turning and then intermittently, but and environmental factors take their toll as well.

I have some sensors on a 2008 Acura (60k miles) that are still working fine and I've replaced sensors on a 5 year old 180000 mile car.

Is this correct?
If I crank up the GX and go about my day I would be informed of a flat tire I had in the garage while on the road?

I'm not sure that I understand the question.

If you get a flat while standing still (overnight, in the parking lot at work etc.), then you won't get a low tire pressure indicator until you've driven a bit.

To save battery, the sensors don't broadcast all the time (but very frequently when the wheels on the bus go round and round)

Default TPMS sensor selection/replacement

Hi all, TPMS noob here, putting TRD Pro 17" wheels on my GX. Which sensors do I buy? The GX sensor part is 42607-33021 - for the stock 18s. The 4Runner sensor part # is 42607-35040, for the 4 runner with these same TRD wheels.

Do I buy the sensors for the new wheels or the sensors for the GX? Not sure what's different about them.

Also, looks like you can get Denso versions for about half price of OEM, are these just as good?

Thanks

I can't say 100% but I'm very confident that any TPMS sensor that works with a 4runner will also work with a GX.

I have a '10 GX and these are the exact sensors I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/231430211513 . I had them installed in 17" Trail Edition wheels off a '19 4Runner and coded them to my vehicle using Techstream.

Thanks bambam. I ordered some dormans for a decent price that are supposed to work with the GX, hopefully that’s all i need.

you got a good price but I would be concerned buying used TPMS because you don’t know how fresh the battery is and the install/program price if they only lasted a couple years.

Default TPMS question for those that have installed OEM TRD PRO wheels

Quick question on those that have upgraded to OEM TRD PRO wheels. Mine just arrived today - I also ordered new TPMS sensors P/N 42607-33022.

After putting the TPMS sensor into the valve stem hole, I see it doesn't fit right, it is missing a sleeve... Some googling reveals that I may need TPMS sensor fitting kit # 044230E010.

However, even looking at he fitting kit, it looks like the angle of the sensor inside the wheel will remain the same - but as you can see in the third pic, it appears that the sensor will "float" and not rest against the wheel. Looks like it's even got little 'feet' made for resting against the wheel.

So - is that normal or did I get the wrong TPMS sensors? I see some references to P/N 42607-06030 or 42607-35040 - maybe I need one of those instead?

Thanks!

Default TPMS Intermittent

Hi,

I recently towed a uahul 5x8 approximately 1500lbs. As I was driving the toms light kept flashing. My tire pressures before were around 35 psi for all 4.

This happened intermittently over 300 miles. So, I inflated to sidewall pressure simce towing around 40 psi. Same thing.

Now I unhitched the trailer and deflated back to 35 psi and no flashing at all.

What am I missing?

Were you running any other electrical devices in the rear of vehicle?

I occasionally get TPMS sensor communication errors when I run my ARB refrig off of a 400 power station being charged off the 110V outlet.

This combo can cause random errors with TPMS on my vehicle that usually clear up on the same road trip. If I pull codes it basically shows one or more of the rear sensors has lost communication with the TPMS ECU. This never happens when I am not using my refrig.

If problem becomes more common you may want to consider picking up a diagnostic tool. OBD Fusion/Link can query TPMS diagnostic codes.
