TPMS / TPWS Questions/Comments/Concerns

I wrote python code (running on a raspberry pi) that talks to the MX+ via bluetooth and successfully retrieves TPMS pressure + temp for my 2015 RX. If you are interested PM me. I believe that once you see how the code works you can replicate easily from an app as well, I just find it easier to debug with python so I did it that way.

I see the TPMS reset button for multiple wheel sets is still available on Russian and I believe GCC models as well. 2020 has self program but looks like option was carried on further than 10-13 models I had seen earlier.

TPMS Woes
Hi Everyone -
I just went from a 2011 GX with over 200k miles to a new (to me) 2018 GX.
I swapped the aftermarket wheels I had from the 2011 over to the 2018 and went to the local shop to get the tmps reprogrammed.
They couldn’t do it. They said they could find the sensors when putting in a 2011 on their tool, but couldn’t reprogram them to the 2018 (said they saw a difference between the programming before/after 2012 models).
The tpms worked fine with my 2011 and I figured they would be able to be reprogrammed. What am I missing here? Anyone else experience this? I’ve searched and found some helpful tidbits but nothing definitive.

I am not aware of differences between those years for TPMS. I have heard of someone reporting tire shop couldn't program and then had to use Techstream. I use Techstream a couple times a year to reprogram my sensor on two sets.

Here is the sensor used for basically all included model years

The big change on 460 I am aware of is 2020 model year as they added the self-program capability.

I had a similar problem when I was trying to mount a set of snow tires on older 2011 rims onto my new-to-me 2017 GX last winter. The older rims had after-market sensors. I swapped 4 tires but did not change out the spare and the tech told me that their tool could not read the sensors (although it had read them before). The issue was that the spare also needs to be re-scanned in order for the system to recognize the new sensors even if the spare is not changed out. In order to scan the sensor on the spare, we had to lower it somewhat from the storage position since the valve/TPMS unit is pressed against the underside of the vehicle when the spare is stowed. After the initial shop told me they were unable to read the sensors, I wound up going to a local chain -- I believe it was an America's Tire branch -- which is where we figured out the issue with scanning the spare. Not sure if your issue is the same. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.
I should have mentioned the tpms sensors I have on the aftermarket wheels were swapped from my OE wheels on my 2011.
I did notice looking up replacement tpms sensors that the genuine Lexus replacement tpms sensor changes once you hit 2013 and the 2012 and previous sku is not compatible with a 2013+ … which may be my problem.

I’ve used these with success.

Based on the Schrader website, the 2011 GX and 2018 GX utilize the same sensor (Pacific 315 MHz). You can look it up at https://catalogue.schradertpms.com/e...vehicletype=AU. I would try using a TPMS reader on your 2011 wheels to see if you can retrieve the ID and tire pressure. If you end up replacing your 2011 sensors, consider an aftermarket cloning capable TPMS sensor.

2017 GX460 TPMS won’t turn off
I’ve look high and low and I can not find a TMPS reset button and this model does not have it on the dash menu. Anyone know how to reset the sensor?

Tire Pressure Display
I have a new 2021 GX 460.
The tire pressure display does not reflect any number values. It just reflects "___" .
All my tires are properly inflated.
The TPS light is NOT on.
I tried doing the tire pressure calibration several times and even drove about 10 miles.
Nothing changed.
I really don't want to have to go to the dealer if this is something I can fix.
Is there a reset I am missing?
(I read the manual...)

I haven't really heard anyone talk much about the TPWS calibration.
So you followed all of this and still nothing? Are the messages shown below showing up on the gauge cluster area?
