I have always been concerned with sticking anything to the dash. I use the vent clip to keep the phone up to a better line of sight. iPhone X with a thin cover with the metal plate inside slides around a bit on the mount but still pretty good.
This is the best mounting I have seen so far for the GX. After a bit of use, how has it worked out? On my FJ60 and my Tacoma, I used RAM Mounts that were similarly attached to the dash to mount the phone and tablet.
I have an adhesive “NATO Mounts” magnetic mount that also allows wireless charging. The metal plate that adheres to the phone is a ring, so it still charges. I’ll get a pic tomorrow. I got mine on Black Friday for $20, $39.95 now. Works great and I mounted it below the CD player.
I am still pleased with the setup. I only put the iPad in place for off-road journeys, but I use the phone mount all the time. As previously noted, there is some flex to the speaker grill, but positioning the phone landscape orientation with weight resting on the dash makes that a total non-issue. If you want the entire weight of the phone held by the arm and track, it would bounce around quite a bit. Also, especially for the iPad, I had to disable "shake to undo" in iOS while off-roading.
IMHO, these magnetic vent mounts can't be beat. Holds my phone securely with the metal plate installed under my phone's cover. The mount is small and 1-piece, and has no suction cups or adhesive pads, so I can easily just grab it from the car, toss it in my suitcase and take it with me on vacation to use in a rental car. I have it inserted into my GX's center left vent. When it's mounted, the phone doesn't get in the way of any of the controls on the dash, unlike many of the other designs I've seen. It will slightly block the "AUDIO" button for the nav screen but I can easily rotate the bottom edge of the phone out of the way with the flick of my finger to get to the button, unlike fixed mounts where the mount and/or phone won't move or pivot.
I use the NILLKIN Car Magnetic QI Wireless Charger II (model A) (FAST Charge) on the vent. I would only get it if there is a matching Nillkin Magic Qi wireless charger case for your model phone. It is a good holder if you have their case. It likely won't hold you phone if you are off roading but in town, it charges you phone when you place it on the stand. Great is you are using power hungry apps live navigation or streaming.
That's good to know that you still enjoy it and that it is solid for offroad use. Did you look at placing the track on other places of the dash that may not flex as much? I am thinking that it may just be hard to access. Also, I'm an android guy, so no shake to undo!
That A pillar mount is pretty slick, but I'd be a bit concerned I might have a ram mount/phone head-shot in the event of an accident that triggers the curtain airbag.

I'm with this guy... we have curtain airbags there so I would'nt try to mount my phone there.
