Default Got hit in a parking lot, any guesses at cost to fix?

As the title says, I got hit by a BMW X5 in a parking lot. Both lights are cracked and of course the obvious bumper damage. Any guesses what the estimate to repair is?

Sorry to hear about the accident. You can use a heat gun to soften up the bumper and push it out. It’s very easy actually. Use Touch up paint to cover the scratches and apply some clear coat.

Did you already get an estimate? I didn't look up any parts or anything, My guess is if repaired at a Toyota dealer, then $798.

Real hot water can also work on bumpers (I've even heard of use on metal), sometimes it transfers heat better without as much of a chance of burning. Also the water holds more heat than air and transfers quicker.

Some could be done even without the heat, but the heat does reduce chances of cracking plastic and paint, and makes it easier to move back into place.

EDIT: So this started playing in the background, he uses a sink plunger:

My best guestimate without looking up parts...

Taillights - $780, $398
Bumper - $900
Installation - $345
Paint new bumper/blend - $1,100
Total $3,523

Actually that seems a little low. Hm...

Assuming that X5 driver has good insurance.

Thanks folks. The other driver has USAA. I did look up OEM replacement parts for the two lights and the prices range from $290-410 for the rear light assembly and $160 for the bumper light assembly. Good idea on pushing the bumper out, though I'd prefer a professional fix it. Not sure the insurance will cover new bumper...probably just fix and paint. I have an adjuster coming today to give me an estimate and I want to be a little knowledgable.

I'd say about $1400. The main tail light will probably be the most expensive thing.

Once you get the estimate, see if you can get the money up front and have it fix yourself. You can get the tail light OEM from eBay or offerup for pretty cheap. The bumper can be repainted instead of replace.

One thing is to keep records of these, like pictures and such because it may show on Carfax as in accident even if it's minor, in case you need to sell it later.

If it's not a new GX, the insurance might only pay for used parts, like from Keystone. Most won't give you a brand new part unless Keystone doesn't have it.

Why is everyone suggest on how to get it done cheaper? The bumper should be replaced instead of fix. It’s other driver’s fault. Just find a dealer authorized shop and send the bill to insurance company. Make sure you ask for rental as well!

His question was about the cost and some people are recommending methods to get the work done less expensively because in many cases you can get a high estimate at a Lexus location, then get the work done cheaper or even do it yourself, and keep the difference.

I agree, let a professional shop handle it.

You do not want to repair a bumper cover unless it has minor scratches. the way they fix most covers is to remove them, then they are heated and then use some kind of body or bumper filler and then they paint over the entire bumper cover.
This may look good but as soon as the first car bumps your cover in the parking lot it will have a very good chance of cracking, and even if the shop gives you a life time warranty they will not cover it due to the new impact.
Unfortunately once you use any descent amount of filler during the repairs it will not be as flexible as a cover that does not have any kind of filler.

Some things in this world we can do yourself if you have some basic skills, but body work and painting is usually not one of them.

For the record the estimate you have is a good one, they are using OEM factory parts (not aftermarket or salvage yard pats) and they are including all proper body and painting labor to get the job done properly.
Like it was said before you are usually entitled to a rental wile vehicle is in for repairs.

Also mentioned before, photos of damaged vehicle and a estimate and usually prof that it was repaired at professional shop will go a long way in show any future owners or dealers interested in buying your vehicle it was not hit that hard and that it was repair correctly.
