Default Platform for next GX?

We recently bought a 2015 Luxury. It had been decades since I drove a body on frame enclosed vehicle, although I have driven pickup trucks a few times. It looks to me like all BOF SUV platforms are old. So much so that I cannot visualize a massive update to the GX that would keep it a BOF vehicle. In looking back over forums posts and other literature about the GX460, the prospect of a major refresh (much more comprehensive than the lovely spindle grill) seems to be an annual topic, yet no change so far.

Personally, I'd love to see Toyota and Lexus continue to refine this 150 platform. If not, then what. Discontinued? Use the Highlander (or Sequoia?) platform? Or altogether new? Or do you think they would keep it BOF?

Sequoia is a body on frame. I think as long as Toyota plans on making vehicles like the Prado, 4Runner and Land Cruiser that they understand their fan base prefers this to a cross over platform.

I agree. There will always be a market for BOF

Don't think they will kill the GX line, although I wish they were not making it look like the RX...IMO the new front end is hideous. I much rather prefer truck like appearance..I think big ol' V8 may disappear but hope will remain an option, If they decide to throw diesel motor in it, i've read many horror stories about Benz's Bluetecs,

I'm wondering if they're will be a hybrid version whenever the next one comes out. Nobody seems to have any concrete idea when new one will be out or what it will be.

Speculation in other threads is that 2020 might be another refresh before new TNGA platform model several more years out beyond that.

Not sure ...maybe current Safety Sense hardware on Prado will finally reach GX 460. Just speculation though. Maybe unreleased GEN10 version of infotainment as well? Crawl and MTS become standard? :-)

Still waiting as well. Anything powertrain related is probably a wish for the 2020 IF THEY EVEN DO THAT. Electrification of the current platform is out of the question since I`d dont see any way to integrate that into the existing chassis without maybe sacrificing off roading features or loosing the spare tire.

If they do a refresh, and can keep prices resonable, sign me up now.

Whatever they do they will need to make sure that there's a substantial reason for people to keep buying the LX. They can't put in everything or even include better things in the GX than in the LX without impacting sales.

There is, the LX just offers a better vehicle overall for a significant price bump. The crowd that drives a LX usually dislikes the ride and feel of the GX. The interior is besides the point as commonality is the name of the game in the industry. However with the LX being moved with some crazy offers this past year, I wonder once the GX is refreshed we will get the STICKER Only phase for the first year.

Side note....I think there is a sales freeze on LX and LCs right now unti that recall fix is available in February.
