Cabin light killed the battery
Hey all, I had an unpleasant surprise this week. My son had left the overhead light above his seat turned on Monday evening. On Friday evening (it's a third vehicle so it doesn't get driven every day) I found the GX was completely dead. I took the battery out and recharged it overnight and it seems to be ok. I was really surprised that the GX doesn't automatically turn off the interior lights after a while. My other Toyotas (Sienna and Camry) do. I guess I'll have to be more vigilant on this vehicle. Is there a setting in Techstream that addresses this or is it just a missing feature?

I don’t think my 2012 Base overhead lights shutoff automatically but I’d have to verify. I know once we left s light on at an airport parking garage and battery was dead when we got back a week later.

Never tested but my '12 owner's manual says this. Could main switch have been in the OFF position? This may override the timer.

If you haven’t yet, you can change the interior bulbs to LEDs to help with less current draw if left on.

I defintely agree with this. I've built LED arrays for all of my cars since I started driving. The LEDs have definitely saved me from going meeting a dead battery caused by the cabin light, on more than one occasion.

Are you sure the light stayed on?
Could it be that it was just time for a new battery?
I just replaced my battery in my 2011 about a month ago.

For what its worth, my 2011 does not turn the lights off automatically but I also keep my door switch to "off", if that matters. I had a neighbor call me once to tell me that my interior light was on. Unfortunately I was 1000 miles away from home....

Just ran a test.
Light didn't turn off at 20 minutes... I should have read manual closer on my '12.
Door would have to be ajar as well.

I have not looked into it but the headlights stay on for more than what I set it to (Max that I think was 30 seconds) after exiting the truck and open another door.
So here is an example that I experienced today, I pull into my garage which is dark enough to turn on the headlights, I open a second row door and unload some groceries and close the door 2-3 minutes later with headlights still on. I open the rear window within 30 seconds to retrieve the rest and the headlights remain on until I close the window and then headlights turn of in the usual time.

Thanks hzhao, this is a concern if I possibly did not fully close a door or rear window so I go back to my garage to verify the shut off. Automatic shut off would be nice.
