Mine has been rock solid, I have no fears of ever being left stranded. That being said, it does require a little more maintenance that most other cars will not. Every other oil change I will do the diff fluids, transfer case fluids, and grease the driveshafts.

I actually thought I'd ask my service rep since they looks at vehicles all day.
"Which vehicle do you see the most often with problems in the service dept.?" Answer: "Lexus IS by far."
"Which vehicle do you see the least often?" Answer: "Lexus GX, it's one the best vehicle Lexus has built."

It's certainly not perfect but I'm happy with my second one and would recommend to other who need an suv.

I bought my '12 used (5/12 warranty inception date) in 3/2017 and still plan to keep for 20 years. I have more than enough confidence I can take it there and beyond.

This type of question should becoming a sticky at this point.

1) Regardless of how amazing we praise the GX, just like any vehicle, specifically used it comes down to how much care the PO took of that vehicle.
2) Get a Indy PPI
3) Compared to whats out there from other mfgs, I beg you to name one vehicle as old as the GX is thats been on sale without any serious refreshes of updates.
4) Its built on the bones of a prado...universal word for reliability.
5) Since these are popuiar with overlanders and people who drive them for 300k, even if you do breakdown, you`ll have someone somewhere to lend some insight
6) Common issues exist but these things are so ancient design wise, all you need is common sense, a good simple OBD scanner and your golden. No software updates, lingering power draw issues, complicated turbo or forced injection, complicated CAN BUS Modules for everything from the dimmer to high and low pressure injectors setup.
7...Follow the rules above and you should be golden.

FWIW I just had my plugs changed at 110 and I'm getting 1-3MPG better now.

My 2014 GX 460 is sitting at the dealer waiting for a new transmission, thank God I purchased an extended warranty!

For the most part though, this vehicle is a very reliable car from what I hear.

I missed this post, thanks. I went from 15.5 to 14.5 mpg with my Pedal Comander but it took some time for the drop in fuel economy so maybe spark plugs related.
