Default Looking at GX460

Im in the market for a 460. I’ve looked at a few over the last several weeks but have not noticed this until this one today. Salesman didn’t have a clue. Can someone please identify this doohickey? Thanks

Looks like the oil cooler was replaced or cleaned. Quick search here.

That is the automatic transmission thermostatic switch. This keeps the AT fluid from flowing to the AT cooler in radiator when warming up. Coolant fluid flows through this to determine when AT fluid will be cooled by the radiator.

One also interacts with this when changing AT fluid as there is a physical valve one needs to turn off.

IIRC....This is seen in any of the Toyota/Lexus 4.6 & 5.7L configurations.

Ah... thank you. Parts look new including rubber hoses unlike the other bits under the truck.

Just speculating but this vehicle may have have received a transmission replacement as well. I can’t say I have heard of anyone needing this single part replaced before.

Acrad- thanks for your input on this. The tranny had the same patina as everything else under there. That was the only part that looked clean. Upon further investigation I noticed wet front cross member then discovered the source was a leaky oil pan. With only 38k miles, I passed on this rig. My current whip, a GX470 is bone dry with 165k.

A leaky oil pan? Like a leak thru the bolt or around the sealant/gasket where it meets the engine? Thats odd.

Yea the mating surfaces between pan and crankcase were wet, possibly bad gasket.

Probably the leaky timing cover and/or valve cover issues that seem to be somewhat common on the 460. It will make the oil pan appear to have a leak. I'd look down on the driver's side of the V8 and see if you see any oil buildup on the timing cover or just below the valve cover.
