Absolute power means nothing ... focus on the power-to-weight ratio as a comparison. Even better, its usable Torque at lower RPM's that is important for towing, off road and off-the-line acceleration.

Seems to be quite a few of us. We handed down our 2005 Sequoia with 200k and got a 2014 GX. Shopped 4Runner Limited (new), X5 (used), and Highlander (new). Love the GX but it is definitely a smaller vehicle than the Sequoia when you’re in it. We had bucket seats in the middle row of the Sequoia and do miss that feature in the GX. That was a perk of the Highlander but I really wanted to stick with something with some off-road ability and true BOF construction.

Im 6’ and the third row of the GX is pretty much unusable. Third row in the Sequoia was actually comfortable for me even for extended distances.

. Interesting to hear you say that. Admittedly I haven’t sat in the 3rd row of the Highlander or the GX (my dad and I are both over 6’ so one of us drives and the other is passenger when my parents are along. My wife and mom have so I am going off their opinions (and they certainly make them known!). I can say that with kid car seats the second row in the HL is roomier and more leg room (kids feet hitting back of GX seat) than the GX but GX certainly has more head room. Also, when third row is up and in use, there is NO cargo space in GX whereas you can at least stow a folding kids stroller and a few lawn chairs in HL behind third row seat.
I recognize the common theme in my thread is kids - and the car seats and strollers that come with modern-day child-raising and helicopter parents. These are obviously not issues if you have older kids. We got a GX because we wanted a GX (V8, body on frame, off road capable, styling, towing) - the less room wasn’t material for us.

Hopefully Toyota ups the bar with the AWD config in the Highlander. The Pilot walks over it and it is likely the new RAV4 Adventure model with MTS will also do better.

Fast forward to about 4:30
