Trading Sequoia for GX 460
I’m looking to trade my Sequoia for a 2015 GX. I am definitely giving up a lot of room and power. Anybody make this trade and regretted?

Not apples / apples
We just got a GX. My parents’ Highlander seems to be gigantic inside compared to GX. Surprising and disappointing. We just assumed it was on par considering 3rd row. We should have done our homework more, although we probably still would have gone with GX because it is a GX.

I did exactly that. Sequoia was too big and my wife hated driving it. The GX is a much more manageable size, super comfortable, and has great features not available on the sequoia. My wife loves driving the GX, and I really don’t notice a shortfall in power.

Traded a 2005 Sequoia (purchased new) in for a 2008 GX470 (purchased used-certified in 2010) ... wife LOVED the Sequoia but wanted something more manageable in terms of size. We just traded the GX470 in for a 2019 GX460 ... she cried (seriously) when the GX470 disappeared, but now loves the GX460 just as much. I pushed her into the 2019 before Lexus does something (potentially stupid) in terms of refresh ... like going with a uni-body design propelled by a V6 something. We did not miss the extra room of the Sequoia ... the Lexus "upgrade" more than made up for any feelings of giving up space.

Cannot speak to the actuality of the move, but you're not just giving up power, you're also giving up weight. My 2016 GX is shockingly quick for a 5000lb SUV.

Regarding power, I'm not too sure the Sequoia is very much quicker than a GX. What you will notice as mentioned will be the room. You will probably be keeping the third row seats down most of the time, especially when going to Costco!
But on the plus side, if you plan on doing any off-roading, the GX is heads and shoulders above the Sequoia!!
Consider a GX like a 4Runner in off road capability, but with a V8, more leather, wood and a heck of a lot more comfortable!

The one thing that i am a bit jealous of Sequoia is its MULTI-MODE 4wd system...the ability to run in 2wd. And a tiny bit...wish our front bumper has the clearance of the Sequoia.
Sequoia is roomy for sure, but is just huge to drive around. GX is a lot better for in city driving/parking.

Ditto...that's why I jumped in a 2019. I'm afraid in a couple years the GX may be some unibody crossover with a small motor. Figure I'll have it for 15+ years and pass it down to my son or turn it into a trail toy. With the deals they were giving, it made it a no-brainer. 3 yr old CPOs with 30k were only ~$6k cheaper than the new one I got.

I moved from a 2015 Jeep SRT...that was quick for a 5k lb SUV. The GX is still more than quick enough, but I'll miss the 6.4L in the Jeep.

I hope not but the V6 turbo with better mileage isn't that bad. May not last as long as the V8 but it's still a great engine.
Plus I think I still would have 9 years of great used GX market to choose from LOL.

Previous vehicle was a '17 Tacoma on 35" tires, so the GX in stock form is very quick comparatively.

We made the trade from a Sequoia to a GX and haven't regretted it. Kids were out of the house (still are thankfully!) and we didn't need as much space. We need a cargo box for long trips between places, but we had a rooftop carrier for the Sequoia. We don't go off road, don't mind a bit less power, and prefer the smaller vehicle.
