I searched this forum for an answer but did not find one. My question concerns the seat ventilation system. Does it only ventilate through the bottom cushion of the seat or should it be the bottom and backrest? There does not seem to be any airflow out of the backrest on my vehicle and the owners manual is very vague on this subject. Thanks in advance for your help.
Because the fan is at the bottom of the seat, so most of the air flow will come out from the bottom part, there is holes on the back too, but very weak air flow.
Basically if the car is hot, the vent system won't work well... don't know why they didn't channel the A/C air to the fan...
It seems to be mostly from the bottom of the seat, but on colder days you can feel it a bit on the back.
It works well as far as ventilated seats go, but I would like to have actively cooled and more air moving. Maybe I can tweak the fan to spin faster or replace it with another.
I have noticed that my ventilated seats up front do not put out much if any cool air, even with the dial set to maximum. On my 2016 RX it's definitely noticeable.
I've only seen a few posts on here suggesting it's 'not great'... but would like to see if others can actually detect cold air coming out of the seat?
Air will come out of the seat but not cold air. It just blows ambient air temperature on both the GX and RX. The newer body style RX has been improved so it blows harder and the ventilation is easier to feel, but it's also a lot louder when operating. Place a single sheet of paper on the seat bottom with the ventilator on full speed and you'll be able to tell if it's working or not. I've only been able to "feel" my ventilated seat on long road trips when the interior air temp becomes very cool. Otherwise it's not noticeable but does prevent my butt from overheating in the summertime.
It was well above 90 degrees this week here in Houston and I really could not feel it at all in my GX. I did try directing airflow to floor and body but not sure I sensed much difference. I can tell if I place my hand on the seat that there's a trickle coming through, but it's hardly cold. It would have been great if they had actually installed dedicated blowers for it.
There are two blowers in each front seat but one may want to try the redirect of under seat air flow if performance seems inadequate. Not sure of impact on rear seat floor HVAC performance if one does this though.
