Decided due to time constraints I would re-install my egr valve and take it to Toyota tomorrow and let them run diagnostics. Started the car, took it out for a 15-20 min drive. No issues, ran normal. So not sure what the issue is/was. Maybe just the bad battery jacking with the car. Ran my app for codes and nothing new. I will drive for a few days and hope all is well.
Couple days ago, I experienced check engine light and "Trac Off" displayed while driving, but no flashing "4-Lo". Anyway, with the rough idea and clearly reduced power performance, I was thinking it might have issues with secondary air injection problem as most of discussed here (minus flashing 4-lo light). Call the dealer and arranged towing service next day, and it turned out was a failure of EGR valve (P006A code stored). The worst part is that EGR valve only covered under basic manufacture warranty, as my 2014 GX has already outside basic warranty period. Total cost of EGR valve replacement was about $700 (parts + labor), and it is certainly not the area that I would be comfortable to do it by myself. Not much of option and had dealer completed services.
Been with Lexus since 1993, this is the first experience with EGR valve failure. Last GX470 stayed with family for 12 years with 120K+ miles and trouble free. My question for all is: Is this is just a bad luck or this is something other seen failure related to certain models. What concerns me most is my 2014 GX only had less than 35000 miles (34600 to be exact), and I should not expect anything in that compartment to be failed.
Any comments, thoughts and advices are greatly appreciated.
tecman: Good one... I thought I remembered something about EGR and '14+ but in cold temps...but not this one. Surprised that EGR warranty in general isn't longer
Thanks for the info guys! Hopefully this replacement will last longer and my encounter was an earlier production issue. Just unlucky for me that occurred after warranty.
Acrad is correct, EGR Valve is NOT covered under 8/80, only standard new car basic warranty. I did send Lexus an email yesterday, based on service bulletin information and be so closed to original warranty as it failure, and wait to see how Lexus corp response. WOn't hold my breath on that, but worth the try.
