Anyone replaced sunroof seal?

I should add, you must first tilt the rear of the glass up using the sunroof switch, then you’re able to lift up the front with the screws removed and have adequate room to replace the seal, it’s important to have a quality torx bit or you will strip out the retaining screws for the glass sunroof panel. Harbor freight brand or other cheap brands may not be adequate enough.

- prop the sunroof so the rear is lifted
- unscrew the two front torx and prop the front so i can work on it
- remove the old rubber seal and clean (would 1:1 vinegar and distilled water be ok or use something alcohol based?)
- line up the new rubber as per the instructions, lower and install torx and ensure the roof is level before fully tightening
earlier i asked about applying some grease to the glass before installing: yea or nay?

IMO: I'd probably avoid grease as this would never go and could allow some kind of shift over time. I think something that evaporates in a workable timeframe would be preferred. I think in most videos I have seen this was either a water or alcohol and liquid soap mix.
This is just my $.02... opinion and may not be accurate.

from you, it might as well be the word of god. the soapy mix does make more sense. as for tackling this, unless we get some more 70+ days, ill have to wait. wind chills are already giving me headaches.
big thanks to both of you!

The steps you listed are pretty much how I did it. I agree no grease should be used. Vinegar and water would work, you could also use a quality glass cleaner. It wasn’t too bad “snapping” the new seal onto the glass, it’s what it feels like while you’re installing the seal to the glass. After it’s installed keep applying pressure and a wiggle motion to the seal to ensure it’s fully engaged to the formed channel on the glass. Level and adjust the front, then tighten the torx screws. I had a bit of difficultly getting the accordian style covers back in place, which cover the track and screws, the final step really. Pay attention to how they clip in at the bottom, that’s the only place you need to unclip them, the top part remains in as I recall how I did it.

Replaced my sunroof seal today.
I know this chat is old. BUT, I actually just became a member today so I could comment on this haha. It is a major nuisance getting the seal on. You really have to start in the back middle like the guy in the video says. I was just shocked at how much stretching was needed the whole time. I really did think I was sent the wrong seal, it just seemed way too small. I almost gave up 2 or 3 times being concerned I was sent the wrong seal. I could not have figured it out without a second set of hands. Good luck my dudes.
