Lightbulb Anyone replaced sunroof seal?

So I have some issues with a lot of wind noise when the sunroof shade is open and I was thinking of replacing the seal that goes around the sunroof glass to start. I was told that you have to remove the sunroof to do that. Any thoughts?

It would have to come out. When I condition my seal with 303 Aerospace, you can get most of the seal but not all of it with it open or tilted.

I have the same issue and always figured it was the seal of my after market windshield. I purchased my GX with the current windshield. I’ll have to take a closer look at the moonroof weatherstrip. It’s weird, I don’t get water in an auto car wash but occasionally get soap bubbles?? Go figure.

looking to replace mine its covered in cracks and dry. ive had to 'pop' it back into place twice after opening the sunroof.

looking at this, im assuming it clicks into place without any adhesive but seems highly unlikely.

I wonder if that can be done without dropping headliner?

I need to replace this seal on my G35x next year but coming back to this thread.... I've seen enough videos now that suggest headliner would not need to be dropped on GX either.

Steps 5-7 should be all that is needed. Inexpensive seal.

When I had my Raptor with the twin panel roof the seals (and lifting mechanism) were a point of concern. I did what many other Raptor owners did to maintain the seal with Krypton Grease. It's not cheap... but one tube should last for years.

Amazon Amazon

I did this with the our 2019 GX to prevent dry rot on the seal too. Twice a year just clean the seal and paint where the seal meets. Put a very small dab on your fingers and work the Krypton into the rubber seal. Repeat in 6 months..

To clarify, if a user wanted to replace their worn sunroof seal, all the they have to do is:
  • remove the accordion cover
  • remove the four T25 screws
  • lift away the glass
  • remove the old rubber seal
  • clean the area then clip in the new seal
Did i get that right or miss a step? an

That "appears" to be but just going off what we see in documentation at this point but let us know if you run into other roadblocks.

I don't recall reading any other reports of "owner" swapping the seal.

Hopefully it is as straight forward as it appears to be.

In most videos it seems getting the new seal on without excess is probably the biggest challenge. I've seen some use some solutions of some sorts on general YouTube videos that allows the seal to slide some if you need to take excess overlap out at the end.

you confuse me badly in that last paragraph. what are you referring to when you say 'excess'?

also this video makes it look pretty easy, hardest part will be taking it out and putting it back in and aligning it.

just watched three more video under "lexus sunroof seal", and it looks promising. when i do start this task, would it be 'smart' if i added some grease (shin-etsu) to the mating surface on the glass before slipping the seal in place?

Perhaps the Lexus seal just doesn't have issue but was thinking of this example on a different brand

Around 10:30

I replaced my seal,2014 ES350. Make sure you align the seal with the glass, the video describes how. Make sure you have a like new torx bit, the screws are very tight, maybe even lock-tite on them, can’t remember for sure. I have snap on torx bits, so no problem for me there. I only removed the front 2 and removed, cleaned and replaced the seal. Then I only had to really adjust the front of the glass. There is a mark on the seal which aligns with the rear center of the glass, there are marks on the seal for the 4 corners, as long as you’re close you’ll be fine, I may have been off an 1/8 inch. It fixed all my wind noise and the clunk on left turns. It was in the service history of my car as a declined repair, it was a little awkward getting the 2 side accordian bellows/seals back in place. Other wise not too bad of a job and I saved 300 bucks off what Lexus wanted for the repair.
Frank.
