@bbqsoup

I had noticed you had the fuel input gauge on your screenshots. I thought my tank was full but registered around 21.75 gallons before I took a drive this morning.

Do you recall the most you have seen it display? Wondering if this is the built in reserve not noted on gauge for 23 gallon max

I filled up two days ago and had driven 36 miles, so maybe 2+ gallons.
I just checked and it shows fuel input as 21.79 gal. I will definitely keep an eye out and check it when I fill up next time to see how much it displays.

I realized I was on an incline so the fuel tank is a bit screwy.
Just took a 35 miles drive and parked on flat land so the number is a bit better. Total driven miles is 70 and it shows 18.5gal. So it does show about 23gal total in the tank.

I went and filled it up today.
When the pump stopped at first click, the fuel gauge registered with 21.27gal.
I pumped it a bit more and at second click, it was 21.53gal.
I tested it at a few spots in Costco parking to make sure I was on a flat surface, all registered at 21.53.
When I pulled into my drive way at an incline the max it showed was 21.66. Usually on an incline it would show almost 2gal more when 1/2 full.

So the max it could show is 21.66 regardless how much gas is in the tank.

Default What are you using to scan your GX's?

Hi all,
I recently bought a '19 GX Premium and I'm looking to learn. I came out of a 99 Land Cruiser and did all my own wrench work (RIP - totaled by a deer strike). I used 'open source' version of Toyota TechStream on an old laptop to work on the Cruiser as well as my other Toyota (00 Tundra). PDF repair manual were easy to find as well.

What scan tools are you guys using? Can TechStream be used? I've got to say, it make diagnostics on my Toyota's a breeze.

Thanks!

Techstream can definitely be used

For portable troubleshooting I use OBD Link

Hi bbqsoup
What is the name of the fuel remaining sensor? I'm not getting any readings on my 2015. most have zero and one had a completely wrong value like 36 gal.

For those of you that have been using the Vgate Vlinker MC+ for a bit, are you still happy with it? Been doing more research and it seems that some people with other cars do sometimes get issues.

I plan on using both iOS and Windows.

Anybody using the Vlinker with Touchscan ($35, but like OBDFusion can use other brand module). Just wondering if the extra $80 for the OBDLink MX+ is worth it.
OBDWiz is free but need OBDLink module.

Buying the OBDLink MX+ only gives you the Android/iOS free add-ons, not Windows. The PC add-ons are MUCH more expensive ($85 for most) than the phone add-ons for both OBDWiz and Touchscan. And oddly if you buy the add-ons at the same time as you buy Touchscan (like OBDFusion not free, but works with other adapters) you can get them cheaper (-$15), but not so for the free OBDWiz.
So, if you know you're gonna need at least 2 add-ons immediately it's probably wiser to buy Touchscan.

OBDLink is the company that makes the adapters.
OBDSoftware is the company that makes, you guessed it, the software :-)
They make OBDLink (Android & iOS) and OBDWiz (Windows) only for use with an OBDLink adapter, which is why you see those 2 listed on the OBDLink website and they are free. They probably get money directly from OBDLink for every installation or per module they sell.
But OBDSoftware also makes OBDFusion (Android & iOS) and Touchscan (Windows) to sell themselves and they work with several 3rd party adapters.

Just wanted to note for those of us with ‘22 & newer models, when adding your GX to your OBDLink MX+ just list it as a ‘21, as Toyota doesn’t have anything past that when looking to add data. It’s free, and ever everything will remain the same. Cheers.

Any advice on how to use with a 2022+ GX? I want to monitor AT temperatures but have not yet figured this out. Anyone measuring temps on a 2022+ GX that can offer pro tips?

FYI: I submitted a OBD Link support ticket to find out when '22+ Toyota/Lexus support would be offered.

Still wanting to use specific features for my 2022 GX460... any hacks that anyone can point me to? The OBDLink app still does not support 2021+ GX460. Mine is a 2022. I want to measure AT temp, TC lock-up, etc. Thanks in Advance!

@gfcipriani Are you able to connect to the vehicle at all? Assume you the MX+ and not one of their other models?

Acrad, yes - I can connect with the MX+. Because there is no vehicle specific setup for my 2022 GX, I am not able to see options for all the PIDs that are mentioned throughout this thread. For example, I wish to monitor AT temp and Torque Converter Lock-up status.

I have reached out to OBDLink customer support and an I'm correspondence with Shubert C from tech support. He has suggested that I do the following...
"Download the OBDLink app's 2021 Toyota add-on and set your vehicle to a 2021 variant of your Lexus in the Vehicle Editor, you may be able to read some data.

After connecting to this vehicle at least once, please download the 2021 Toyota OEM add-on in OBDLink app > Settings > Get OEM Enhanced Add-ons > Toyota, Lexus, Scion). After this, please connect to your vehicle via the OBDLink app and go to Settings > Vehicle Editor and set your vehicle to a 2021 Lexus GX460 with a 4.6L engine option. Once you do this, please connect and try to read OEM DTCs or live parameters."
I plan to give this a try and will report back.

In the meantime, it is a bit confusing as the developer offers two apps - OBDLink and OBDFusion. I have acquired both, but Shubert C recommends that I follow the above procedure with the OBDLink app.

Will update on my experience and results...

The OBDLink app only works with their adapters but includes "ALL" of the automaker and year expansion packs. If you use adapter on a lot of vehicles it would quickly pay for itself. OBD Fusion works on non-OBDLink adapters (although you could use it with theirs) but you then have to purchase the expansion packs.

I would do what they suggested and please report back.
