Since the vehicle is on the ramp, I cleaned the front under body by removing the shields. Changed engine oil using amsoil signature 0w20 and amsoil filter.. Installed Fumoto F103SX, torqued to 15 ft pounds. I saw the oil port old crush washer stuck and can not take it out. So did not want to damage that further by prying on it, Fumoto valve installed on top of that. No leaks.
I had to cut it when installing mine. Removing the battery made it close without long needle nose pliers but I got frustrated after two hours and just cut it.
I figure I had all the parts I needed to install the new stuff so the old hose wasn't going to do me any good anyway as I have no plans to remove the cooler once its installed.
Point of no return for sure... snip snip.

I plan on getting one and throwing it in the tool bin. What I ended up using was a long needle hose plier to blindly reach down from the top and catch the clamp. I think I spent a better hour trying from below and at top. In two weeks I will be towing again and will post up some data.
This looks very handy but $70, dang ? There are multiple similar pliers available on Amazon for the fraction of the price. I'm sure it is not at high quality but for the occasional use it should work fine.

Off topic, but can you link to the Amsoil filter for the GX? I, too, use Amsoil for all of my cars since 2006 but I've always been too lazy to look up which Amsoil filter would work for my cars. I always just went OEM for filters. I would love to try the Amsoil oil filter for the GX for starters. I also think I torqued my Fumoto (something I also put in all my cars) more than 15 ft./lb. I hope I didn't over-torque them but I have no plans on removing them anyway.

I used EA15K49 amsoil filter last time also. smaller seal ring is not required. Only the big one is used every time.

Initially I was hesitant to do by myself, but I studied this thread. if you follow carefully, how Acrad and others installed, its easy. any one can do that.

I bought the cheaper one from amazon. The wire tip broke at the first instant. I am returning it.

I successfully installed and tested OEM cooler. Still did not use the trailer but plenty of stop and go traffic, ATF 1 never went up above 190. Seems a good value for the rig. Thanks for all the pioneers who installed and their experience..

On a side note... if you you are doing a AT fluid drain and fill with this project or just maintenance on a 460 there is a built in temp monitor if you don't have Techstream, OBD Link/Fusion, Scangauge etc...

Your D indicator will tell you temp.. I like to know exact temp with TS and OBD Link but if you don't have any of these tools the built in should work for you. FSM says up until 2021 this still works... not sure on 2022.. perhaps someone with a TIS subscription can confirm.

D indicator will go off meaning below 115 degrees.. it will turn on at 115-126..the set temp... and then start blinking above 126 so overtemp for fill check

Remember OBD port is upside down from pic connecting pin 4 & 13

Time to get on board with this and add this to my GX. Most of the parts are available from Partsouq but a few of them don't turn up when you search for the part number.

Ended up ordering the following parts from Bell Lexus:

P/N Quantity Price Each Description
3290760290 1 $ 30.58 Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Hose
3291360270 1 $ 11.07 Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Bracket
3291360260 1 $ 13.99 Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Bracket
3294860020 1 $ 11.09 SEAL, OIL COOLER TUBE
9011906336 4 $ 0.30 BOLT, WITH WASHER
3294335050 1 $ 30.28 Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Hose

Partsouq had:

Toyota 3291060171 COOLER ASSY OIL 2-3 184.20$ 184.20$
Toyota 3294335060 HOSE, TRANSMISSION 2-3 9.93$ 9.93$
Toyota 91621J0612 BOLT,W/WASHER 2-3 0.53$ 1.06$

Bell Lexus had the parts I ordered from them in stock and got them quickly. Partsouq got me the rest from Dubai to Houston in 4 days. Also ordered a few other things and have a few other things to install (drivetrain fluids).

Will try and get to this soon though it may be a few weeks to a month due to a super hectic work schedule. I'll document it here because even though it's been well covered, we can always use more perspective.

Did the install this weekend. I was able to keep that tape connector for the new hose. I just slid the old one out and slid the new one in. I think a little of the ATF fluid leaking out from the hose helped make it move freely through the tape wrap.

Does anyone know if the "D" indicator changes on the 2022 GX460 according to AT temperature? OR is there an error message in the center display to indicate an over temperature concern with the automatic transmission? Thanks!

I'll have to look at the FSM... I haven't seen one with 2022 content but OBD changed (fewer wires in use) on 2020+ so many of the previous methods with a paper clip work.

I had an after-market cooler installed about six months ago, it's twice the size of the OEM cooler and I was towing all summer with zero problems.
$700 installed.

great thread and really appreciate all the contributions. Kind of seems like the OEM AT cooler doesn't really provide much relief. i'm in AZ and will be towing a 4k lb trailer up steep grades during 110deg summer days. Would love to know what after-mkt coolers others installed. Really want max cooling. So far from my reading, I've seen the following brands mentioned. Wondering which larger AT Cooler is the easiest to install.Tru-Cool Max (might require some bracket fabrication)

Hayden

WATS

Kaon

B&M

Setrab (fan cooled)

Any others i should look at? this will be for a '23
Thanks!

There is the OEM setup with no external cooler and the OEM external cooler "not for US market" until 2020 unless fully loaded...

I added the latter and see a 20-30 degree drop from stock. That being said a bigger cooler should give you even better results.

Another debatable topic but I also keep my AT thermostatic switch pinned open year round at this point. You should find some references in this thread.

Agree with Acrad. I use the OEM external cooler and tow 5000 pounds trailer with zero problems. Even climbed a steep hill from stop and picked momentum as if no trailer behind. 4th gear does wonders with the OEM external cooler attached.
