1UR-FE Engine - Full of problems?
So in my area gas prices are crazy and I am seeing great deals on these GX460.
I don’t drive much so the premium fuel consumption is not much of an issue.
Did some research on the engine and I am worried about all the broken valve springs destroying the engine and bad timing chain tensioners.
is there a range of years where the problems were resolved such as 2014?
is fixing the broken valve spring and timing chain tensioner an engine out job?
Rather get the GX460 instead of the 4Runner but the 4runner seems to have the bulletproof v6 engine.
Anyone experience these issues?

What are you talking about?
The engine in the gx460 (and previous generation Tundra and gs sedan) is one of the most reliable Toyota has ever made… same as, if not just as reliable as the 4Runner v6.
two known minor issues with the 1IR-FE engine are a minor timing chain cover oil weap (which I experienced) and a coolant valley leak (which is hard to detect and most people if they have it don’t even know it’s there if they don’t change their own oil and look for signs of it on the backside of the engine).
Neither of which would lead to a catastrophic failure and can be maintained indefinitely without repair.
Either vehicle will fulfill your needs

While I have heard of a few really rare broken valves springs on GX 460…so rare I don’t personally consider it a problem.
You we’re probably reading of issue in 2006-2008 motors before used in the GX
https://www.autoblog.com/2010/07/02/...-springs-w-vi/
“week. A total of 138,000 vehicles will fall under the measure in the US, including 2006, 2007 and 2008 GS, LS and IS models powered by either the company's 3.5-liter V6 or 4.6-liter V8. ”

The likelihood of broken valve springs or timing chain tensioner is so minuscule I doubt you’d even find one person here who’s had that issue on a GX460. Just like nuclearn8 said, the other common or semi-common problems are the timing chain and coolant valley issues. And if you check your fluids regularly shouldn’t pose too much of a issue if you wait to get it fixed.
