2020 GX 460 General Discussion
#451
No rattles, no wind noise. It was mostly road noise at 60+ mph. Mind that I was comparing cabin noise with LS, which is remarkably quiet at 80+ mph. GX when compared with my Hyundai Sonata (sold) and Nissan Rogue (current) is very quiet.
BTW, though GX is a big truck, I felt it was easy to maneuver when compared with my boat (LS - funny I said that.
Love the passion and technical depth the members have here. This forum influenced me to get Lexus LS over BMW 7 series.

It's just dissapointing that it's taking them all of 10 years to redesign this model. In this day and age that's an eternity.
Camry for instance debuted in 83 and is in its 8th generation - that's about 4.5 years per gen.

The Camry sells something like 500k units per year so I would contend that a more routine refresh is necessary in order to remain competitive in the segment in ways in which Camry buyers find important. The GX seems like somewhat of an afterthought in the US market and will follow any refresh/redesigns that are implemented to keep it competitive in its target (ex-US) markets.

Point well taken. all I'm saying is that the redesign cycles have shrunken significantly in the last 20 to 30 years and 10 years seems like an awful long period to keep the same model. But you are correct the Prado (LandCruiser in Europe) in the international markets is more of a rugged utility vehicle than a luxury car and if that's what the market internationally wants that's what they need to offer. That also explains the lack of sophisticated features this car has, and I actually like it like that because the more bells and whistles the car has the more bells and whistles that will break and you have to pay to get repaired.

Agreed.
I was told a few years back that Toyota USA only account for roughly 17% of all Toyota worldwide sales.
I hope they tried and true designs of the body on frame vehicles continues.

lol - very true. A tech refresh would be nice - but again, if it’s not needed to maintain/drive sales or doesn’t appeal to their target market, why make the investment?

when we bought the GX, for fun we also drove the Audi Q7. It was not really ever something we seriously considered, but my wife was overwhelmed by the tech in the vehicle and immediately turned off by it. Of course I thought it was great, but the GX is her DD and we needed something she was comfortable with.

Yep, it just comes down to ROI (return on investment). Whether or not it affects sales, who knows? Toyota/Lexus made their educated guess. The basics of the vehicle still play well as the GXOR concept displayed. I think the response surprised Lexus a bit. But if the GXOR response really did surprise them, they might be missing the boat on a mild tech upgrade as well (despite what their focus groups tell them). But, there'll probably never be a clear answer...
