I agree it is clear music but does not "thump" or "boom". The JBL in my old tundra was much louder and had more "punch". Guess the ML is not geared toward young guys like me who like it loud. Turning it up all the way to 63 or whatever it goes to would not be suitable for a tailgating event like my old Tundra with the JBL.

You must use the surround setting and add at least two notches above the middle setting for base! I found 40 to be my volume setting of choice. The CD is the best sound format.

What is your source? We subscribe to XM and prefer the "50's on Five" which plays early rock with a heavy bass line. The speakers in the doors deliver quite a wallop ... so much so that if we rest our knees against the door handles we feel it in our legs. We have the surround settings at neutral and the speaker placement centered in both directions.

Yes the LS/LX ML is probably the best sounding OEM system made. Other than those, I would rate the GX460 next in sound quality. I've heard just about every other OEM system out there and they just don't have that full range of clarity. There is more to a quality system then just thumping base and sheer volume. I wish DVD audio would have become popular; it is the highest quality format in vehicle systems.

The GX ML system is ok. I tried many different sources and the sound did not improve. I even tried adjusting the settings and the sound was not spectacular. The ML system in the LS is labeled reference surround and the GX is labeled surround system. The LS has more power and more speakers.

I am actually surprised that I didn't notice before or think of asking. It seems like it is not a 6-cd changer? (From what I can tell from the Lexus website and the owners manual). Also is there anyway to put music onto the hard drive?
update: The first part of my question I figured out about the 6-cd changer. Now all I need to know about the HDD. Is the HDD only dedicated to the NAV or can I put music on it?

There would also likely be a problem accessing songs while you access your Nav, at least as far as sharing time with the processor. Or - you could load a couple of hundred CDs on a 16G iPod and plug it into your available USB port....

Flash drive doesn't give you the menu options or organization of an iPod, but you can play songs with it. You also need a very compact flash drive to be able to close your console cover over it, or use a USB extension...
