I was airing my 4Runner down to 8 psi for snow wheeling this last winter . I never had an issue but when I would get on a high traction surface I actually saw one of the wheels spin inside the tire at one point
Even the difference between 8 psi and 15 psi was pretty big. I assume the same would hold true in sand.
Get a set of traction boards too. They worked awesome in snow. They got me out of a few situations.
Also wondering about the interaction of my Pedal Commander since MTS modulates the throttle as well. I've reached out the Pedal Commander technical support to see what setting they recommend as "stock", or close to it. Getting ready to install the MTS and CC in my rig.
I have a feeling the two would not interact. The Pedal commander simply intercepts the throttle signal right at the pedal itself. Its not like the MTS is also using the throttle pedal to control throttle, its sending its own signal to the PCM.
The only difference with the PC on is that you might just have less refined low speed control with your right foot, but that would be true with or without MTS. My PC is def a little jumpy off the line.

im interested in the PC, could you just set it to a lower setting when you’re off-roading?

Yes. It has like 4 different modes and each mode has 9 levels of adjustment. I think the Eco mod probably has a really soft pedal but I havent tried. I normal keep it in Sport or City mode.
You can also just turn it off without unplugging it.
Ordered the 859A1-60040 for my 2015 with crawl control (Driver Support Package). Excellent guidance and cautions on the install. One question if you do not use the MTS mode selection does the system default to automatic control? I.e., Automatic is the default and the MTS mode only allows further refinement.
Finally is the trim panels and the airbag the only thing I could screw up if I am not careful in following your instructions.
Crawl Control and MTS are independent systems. They use the same sensors and at first pass may seem redundant but the main differentiators are that with Crawl Control (1) the throttle/acceleration is fully automated and, (2) Crawl Control seeks to maintain a constant speed. This channel has best videos that I have seen on both the Crawl Control and MTS.
CC is a different type of traction aid than MTS. I forget how many there are somewhere from 3 to 5.
MTS is a throttle governor type. It modifies your throttle input. So in the highest intercept mode you can smash the gas but basically move very slow, the acceleration is limited.
CC is a wheel slip type with selectable fixed throttle amplitude. It will monitor the wheels and brake when slip.
ATRAC is also on there.
Along with the differentials.
Wow so much information to digest. thanks to Acrad, John00 and ahmerx.
Replaced a 2008 GX470 167k with a 2015 GX460 Luxury with DSP (Crawl Control). Black w Black. 86k. I love them both.
