Default Glass hatch bolts rusting

Has anyone experienced rusting bolts on the glass hatch? The vehicle is only 2 years old but I didn’t expect it to start rusting this quickly. For comparison, I have a 4Runner that’s 8 years old but don’t see any rust on the upper body or hardware. Underneath is a different story. Hopefully the images will size properly. I’m trying to upload via mobile.

I have noticed that on my '14 GX. I think this is due to how the hatch glass the way has been designed where the hinges are outside water seal strip. I am not sure it can be prevented, especially if you don't use the hatch glass to access often, the water moisture just trapped in there. The one way that could reduced the rust, would be open it more often and kept area relatively clean and try. Since I am not really use the hatch, I just left them alone and clean them once every so often for the best that I can. I wish the glass would have been designed as 4Runner like windows on the door with power under/down motion.

Hzhao, I agree with you on the tailgate setup. If it had the sliding window or the clamshell, it would have been 1000x better. The hinges aren’t sealed and are exposed... makes a lot of sense when I looked at the glass hatch again.

I’ll bring this up to the dealer next time I’m around.

It looks like you can just replace the hinges...I threw mine away otherwise I would have saved them for you.

Not seeing any rust on my '12 but it did spend it's first 4.5 years in Southern CA and now in a garage in WA state.

I also noticed some rust on these bolts a few years ago. I started spraying them with a little shot of Fluid Film every six months or so and that has solved the problem.

Lightbulb Rear window/hatch rusted strut mountings

I recently bought a CPO 2015 GX 460. The rear hatch struts are rusted/rusting at the point of contact with the body.
Is this typical? What is the best course of action to avoid any further damage?

Common thing in the rust belt area. Just order 2 new ball mounts. Easy DIY.

Not really a geographical issue. I have it and cleaned it off and no problems. High pressure car wash will get these wet.

FWIW, the dealer told me it was all attached and required replacing the full struts when i last had it in for service. I think they quoted around 300 for the parts....
I never got a chance to really look at it and traded it in for a new one last weekend so am less concerned for a while....

On my 16 and 19, I use a small amount of Corrosion X on the metal portion of the strut mount where is attached to the rear door.

With the December to remember, dealer incentives, and email offer, I went 2019.

While I like the new headlights, I don't like the grill as much and lane departure and other additional adds weren't a priority to me.

Couldn't justify the extra

I was wondering if something like Fluid Film would work for this as well.....
