Default Engine noise compared to gx470

Hi guys i recently bought a 2014 gx 460 premium and i have a gx470 with 290k knock on wood lol

Has anyone owned both here and can tell me if the gx470 felt more quieter on startup and basically road/engine noise was not as much as the gx460 ?

Everytime i start my gx470 the noise is not as much as it in my gx460 with only 120k

Comparing both engines i feel like the gx470 was also a smoother motor and how the it delivered power

It is a different engine with more power so I would assume this changes the sound.

Yes true however gx470 is soo quiet at times i cant even tell if its running with radio off n all im talking abt the interior noise on startup. Usually 2nd gen cars make u not like the 1st gen as much however i still cant get over the gx470 and this is my 4th one

I feel like I've noticed a difference in sound between Toyota's timing belt engines vs their newer chain timed engines. Sound, as in noises from the engine compartment. They do seem to be louder during cold starts and while standing in front of the vehicle during idle.
This is a general statement when thinking back on experiences of multiple generations of Sequoias, 4Runners, Tacomas, LS sedans, RX's, and GX's of all generations throughout my family.

We have the 08 GX470 and the 18 GX460. The 460 's engine is much louder, even has a popping sound after turning it off. Both drives the same, smooth and quiet.

do you also notice more engine noise inside the cabin of your 460 vs the 470 ? I guess becoz of the timing chain vs timing belt the engines are louder in newer lexus/toyota

Due to less noise the 470 seems smoother at lower speeds to me

I have the gx460 2018 and the engine sounds very powerful like a v8 should on cold start. cabin noise you can barely notice the cars on. I also owned a 2005 Toyota sequoia and it has a v8 engine and they both sound very very similar on cold start. Toyota V8 engines are superior.

Startup on the 460 you are getting the additional air pump noise which makes it sound substantially louder. At idle this goes away.

Yup it can get pretty loud when the SAI kicks in. Then it gets quieter.

I can hear the 460 engine more than the 470 but it's only when I really step on the pedal.

Not your imagination. I’ve owned both and felt the 470 was much smoother and so quiet sometimes I can barely hear engine noise standing next to it. Also even though the 470 is down slightly on power, the delivery of the 5-speed auto is much better and throttle response is more immediate by comparison. I regretted trading in my 470. Just my 2 cents.

This is exactly how i feel and im glad im not the only one who noticed that luckily i still have my gx470 and i love the upgrades gx460 offers but the love for gx470 is still there and usually i would sell older gen car/suv whenever i get in a newer model but thats not the case with the gx

Just started up my 2008 GX470 (130K) and my 2017 GX460 (19K). It was 6AM and temps were in the low 30s.

Yes, to my surprise, the 460 made a lot more noise. A lot of intake whoosh and whatnot. I was surprised. BTW the 2008 has the original plugs!
