Hitch and Spare tire size
I've been researching maximum tire size for the stock spare location and some have had success with 265/65/r18 fitting in the spare location while others have not. Mostly depending on tire brand. I wanted to get Michelin Defenders in a 265/65/r18 size this spring, which has been shown not to fit. Would removing the hitch allow for more space and the spare to fit without rubbing KDSS? thanks.

just looked into the Pirelli’s. Some members of the forum have done research on revolutions per mile on several tires affecting fit in the spare location. Looks like the Pirelli’s and Michelin’s have nearly the same revolutions. I hate to ask but could you take some pictures showing the fit of the spare? Thanks!

"Factory Hitch" has different definitions ... there is the Class-3 "Receiver" Hitch and the Class-4 "Full-On" Hitch (that also attaches to the frame side rails). The answer to your question is different based on the specific hitch.

I have Falken Wildpeaks in the same 265/65-18 size. The spare fits with no problem, no rubbing anywhere, but the Curt class III hitch does not fit with the bigger spare. But since it's only 4 bolts, I'm keeping it and if I ever do need to tow, I'll just remove the spare and bolt the hitch in.

Not exactly the same but for reference:

TLDR: 265/70/r17 fits but you might need to move the hitch some.

Yeah, I tried moving the hitch... still ended up grinding a little “nub” off of the inside of the hitch just a few mm. Even tires of the same size will have slightly different diameters, and every mm matters . That’s why I mentioned the E-rated Wildpeaks - I know they have more tread depth than the SL-rated ones.
