Default Trade F150 for 2020 GX?

So, I have a 16 F150 with 78k miles on it and I’m looking to get something newer. I’ve been eyeing a GX for a while, but I’ve always driven a truck. I don’t really need a truck and I would like something a little smaller as I’m in and out of parking garages everyday. I have two kids and we have always used my vehicle for family road trips. I’m just more comfortable driving it vs my wife’s highlander.
The only cons I can think of against the GX would be dated tech vs the ford sync system and power. Maybe the size of the rear seat. Pros are reliability, as that’s now my main concern being out of any kind of warranty after only 3 years, and size for getting around the city.
Has anyone here made a similar jump? Anything that I might regret vs the larger truck that wouldn’t show up on a short test drive? Any insights would be helpful.

Hauling and towing would be less than f150. Check the height, gx may be taller than f150 for parking garages but either should be ok if a standard garage. Gas mileage will likely be slightly worse in the gx than the EcoBoost v6 f150. You already know the tech is behind the Ford lineup... turning radius is likely better with gx and likely easier to park ina garage since its shorter.
I love the barn door of the GX but most have to get use to it... you'll miss a tailgate to sit on... my other advice would be to buy a slightly use GX off a lease... they're creampuffs and nothing really has changed functionally to justify absorbing the initial depreciation.

I have a loaded Ford Edge as a company car and my wife has a 2017 GX. The tech on my $30k ( maybe) Ford company car is 1000x better than the GX. Even the camera clarity is 1000x better. If you think you will find the GX tech frustrating you probably will. It’s practically nonexistent compared to any other new vehicle on the road.

BUT, the GX will run trouble free for 250k+ miles.

Here we go. I didn’t complain about anything chief. I gave an opinion about GX vs. Ford tech. And made to be driven? It ain’t a Ferrari. It’s a completed dated 4x4 compared to any new vehicle in the road. I like the GX, I bought one but it wasn’t for the driving experience. It’s reliable and holds value. If tech is important to the OP maybe he should consider another vehicle.

I enjoy having all the cameras on my truck, but they’re almost necessary in many parking lots. As far as safety tech goes, the only thing I’ve become too accustomed to is Blind spot monitoring. As far as the head unit goes, I use my phone for music and nav vía Bluetooth and satellite radio exclusively.
I love the truck, but I don’t have much confidence in it’s continued reliability. I drive about 25k miles a year and want something I don’t have to worry about. MPGs on the truck are 16.7 so I’m not put off by the GX mpg.
I sat in on the test drive of my stepmom’s 2020 RX, so I know what kind of tech Lexus has in the stable. It would be awesome to have the same head unit in the GX, but that’s probably a year or two away. If I wasn’t interested in the off-road capability I might consider a RX

Toyota / Lexus USA accounts for only 17% of worldwide sales.....So, they aren't going to change everything just to satisfy a small market....

I just traded off a 2013 Ram 2500 a couple of weeks back for a 2012 GX 460. I have had many Lexi in the past-multiple RX, GX 470, IS 300, currently have an SC 430 and this GX. Probably had 8 altogether, and I have never had a breakdown with any of them, and very few issues at all. I can remember my first RX 300 went over 100k miles before I even replaced the brake pads.
Like you, I just never used the 3/4 ton, and living in Houston it drove like a tank with no suspension on it. I also grew weary of the 10 MPG in town, even though I only RT about 15 a day, all in traffic.
Anytime I am in the mood to buy a vehicle for understated quality, and know I can jump in and drive the car anywhere at a moment's notice, I buy Lexus. I was torn between getting another Escalade vs the GX, and I really love Escalades, but in my experience when you drive a nice Lexus you know that is the car for you.
Just my opinion.

Flame Suit On.

I think the interior is the most important part of a vehicle, as I spend most of my time inside rather then outside. The refresh was absolutely minor at best, and really doesnt doo much for me. To think they`d find finally invest some $$ on this second refresh like say they did on the more expensive LX is too much to ask. Heck they blatantly dont even grant the GX options they fit for lesser models or more expensive models, like for instance an actual Lexus Safety suite not a half thought out system they offer now (i guess they believe lexus apologists will be help justify things).

MY23 cannot come soo enough.

I made the jump. Bought a 2020 Black Premium over the weekend. I appreciate everyone’s input. I’m looking forward to the slightly quiet/smoother ride vs the truck.

Congrats! How much discount % this you get on your new truck? MSRP vs. Out the door?

Congratulations on you new GX. We are doing the exact same thing 2014 F150 > 2020 GX 460. It will be a daily driver for my wife who has been driving various pickups for the last 25 years. She's looking forward to the maneuverability of the GX, but probably won't see any significant increase in fuel mileage. She says she's not ready for a crossover SUV yet, so the GX is one of the few that fits the bill.
