Only the leather part is heated... put your hands at 10 and 2 and it should be nice and toasty unless it was changed...

Correct, all Lexus and Toyotas only have the hand area heated. in my case, it's not getting warm, just lukewarm.

You're under warranty, take it to the dealer. While there try the heated steering wheel on other GX's on the lot... if you have an IR gun take that to compare actual surface temperatures... so you can quantify if it's "normal" or not, which is likely what a technician will tell you since I doubt they're testing it to a specification. techs are inherent lazy....

Toyota had to reduce the heat because some moron sued them because it got too hot for them.

I assume the LX with a similarly designed steering wheel has no issues?

This just seems more, we picked the RX parts bin rather then the LX parts bin and ended up with the weak heating element.

Took the car to the dealer and got the answer. Lexus has changed the heated steering wheel across all models for 2020 and reduced the heat to max 40 degrees. Had a 2020 RX as a loaner and the steering wheel was the same, lukewarm.

40º? Sounds more like a steering wheel cooler.

My 2011 is the base model but with all the added packages which means I didn’t get the heated steering wheel. When I was searching for my gx I was only looking for bases because my gx470 had the adjustable shocks and height and I removed them all when they started to fail. I wish the heated steering wheel was a stand alone option or at least for us on clublexus maybe something that could be modified. I’m sure you could find a heated steering wheel in a salvage yard and probably easy enough to add the switch. Has anyone attempted this?

Thread on adding option here.. Sounds like some custom wiring would be needed.

104 sounds warm enough? I'll have to put my IR temp gage on mine to see actual temp. Anyone know what the temp value is supposed to be pre 2020?

Never found a "normal" temp value of pre-'20 steering wheel in any FSM documentation.

Just took a bunch of measurements around steering wheel (leather parts). Measured between 33-36ºC. Outside air temp ~30ºF. Plenty warm enough.
