Default Fake/Counterfeit OEM parts

I recall reading about this topic somewhere, but I don't recall there being a thread specifically for it. I stumbled across this video and thought I'd share with you guys, since we have quite a few DIY'ers on here.

It may be somewhere else but I mentioned my concern back in January.

Counterfeit parts have been a significant problem in all industries for many years. Not only do they support transnational criminal organizations, but they also directly support terrorism. I spent years dealing with counterfeits with the Joint Terrorism Task Force and now, one of my clients is the world leader in anti-counterfeiting markings and labels.

One problem is that consumers and other end users write off counterfeiting as some sort of a prank and the criminal fraud that it is.

You'd be surprised at the amount of counterfeits on "trusted" platforms like Amazon.

Just buy from a trusted dealer. For me, that is Bell Lexus for almost everything OEM and RockAuto for anything else.

Can you imagine how bad a fake oil filter could be? Ugh...

I bought some things recently from eBay as well... went back and checked and luckily I purchased them from various Toyota dealerships that sell parts on eBay.
