Default Suspension Xperts inside!

Most lifts I see stop at 2.5 inches for the GX but for FJs and 4 Runners you can put them in the sky. So what are the limiting factors when lifting a GX beyond 2.5 inches? I want at least a hard 3”s,, 3.5-4 would be better!

I could be wrong but I thought KDSS may need to be removed for anything over 2.5"

KDSS should not be a limiting factor for a lift, it maybe a limiting factor for articulation. In my case I’m not concerned with articulation, I would just like more ground clearance/larger tires. I may head over to The 4Runner forum and camp out there.

I'm just under 3". You just need some UCA's from what I understand.

There are a lot of limiting factors...

Driveline/differential angles, including CV and axle geometry (you'd like need new rear upper and lower trailing arms to keep the rear axle in factory location)
steering geometry
kdss

all these would be stressed beyond their design at a hard 3", 3.5-4"...

Tuff Country has a 4” lift for the 4Runner, springs, UCA, spacers and shocks. Nothing out of the ordinary, no adjustable pan hard rods or connecting links. While I don’t doubt the added stress but that would pertain to any modifications one would do.

Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done... anything is possible with enough money.

The risks normally far outweigh the benefits when modifying a vehicle, and shoehorning a 3"+ lift on to a GX is one of these scenarios... buuuuuuuut if the OP wants to do, go for it, not likely to get much sympathy here when it brakes... oh and make sure you get some extended brake lines and abs sensor harnesses, good luck!

For suspension lift, anything more than 3" can result in a lot of components being stressed out beyond their design. You will mostly have to replace alot of things with after market. Those that have 5-6" may have done a SFD - sub frame drop to get the extra lift. If I lift mine, I won't do more than 2" just to keep the CV angle in spec.

I was really hoping to use the brake lines as limiting straps,

I'm sensing sarcasm... It appears you asked a question to which you already know the answer to, good luck fine sir.
