We try to be careful with it even though I'm sure it won't wear that well over time. We use an extra seat cushion that helps protect it (but protection is a side effect, I need it bc for whatever reason the GX front seat kills my lower back when I drive for any period). I would think vinyl, at least some quality vinyl, would last longer than leather in most cases
From the service writer I once spoke to eons ago (truckload of salt) the GX seats are designs that Lexus has moved on from where this is a common issue, that plus poor leather habits folks have in terms of care.

Consider a used Luxury with drivers support package. They're a bit harder to find because there was a wait between 3 and 6 months for the drivers support package, but they have the cameras, crawl control, air suspension, etc.

I'd buy the 2020. If you buy the pre-2020 then every time you see a 2020 you will beat yourself for not buying the 2020 in the first place.

Buy once cry once.

But then when the 2021 comes out you will be kicking yourself for not waiting to get that

I seriously doubt there will be much if any changes on the 2021.

I think one could argue that there hasn't been much real change since in the GX since 2010
That said, of course if one can afford it, one should get what whatever one really wants.

I somewhat disagree with "real change" The body got a makeover and tech stepped up a bit and now new safety features on the 2020.

The core of the the GX, no significant change..

Or just swap out the grille and call it a day. The only person that will know it's not a real 2020 is you.

I'd rather have a new 2020 with 2010-2012 bumpers than a new 2019 with a 2020 grill. Better yet, the Toyota LC150/Prado face and rear bumper, rear door tire carrier, 2nd fuel tank and 2.8l 4cyl diesel engine while you're at it.

the face is different, the tech is the same since 2010. LSS is not even TSS v1. just repackaged trim options

If they make any small year-to-year changes at all, my wishlish for 2021 model would be:

1). Carplay
2). A/C button and fan button as mechanical buttons
3). Up-swinging tailgate
4). Electric power steering

For the 2023 redesign, if it ever happens, wishlist would be:

5). Includes the above
6). More efficient engine, like a 3.5L turbo
7). Keep the "tall" look

Despite wishful thinking, #1-4 are probably not gonna happen, since they've had 10 years to do those (including 2 refreshes), and they still haven't done it.

There's more hope in the 2023 redesign though. But I'm getting my hopes up too high already.

I just bought a '13 a few months ago, so not in the market, but agree that Carplay/Android Auto would be the single biggest improvement to the GX by a long way IMHO. I oddly don't really mind using the screen for the A/C - my '07 IS250 has physical buttons and I am still always confusing the radio buttons for the AC control.

If the grom thing materializes we all might be covered. Nothing would beat a factory integration though....especially for new purchases in 2020
