I do believe you have a premium, you should know better than anyone else. Also giving details for others reading this. a while back we did some research, and found that a large percentage of GX for sale were claiming to be premium and luxury but were not.

can also do a vin lookup, and some insurance cards list the trim. like mine.
ih

I believe 2010 to 2013 there were only 2 trims base n premium but in 2014 they had 3

What does this look like?

Asked the mechanic and he said it looks lube and not trans fluid. Other side was clean.

Just looks like extra grease spun off after zerk fittings were lubed. Looks fine to me.

I bought a L-Cert '13 in September. I just had to replace the tire pressure monitors after replacing the tires. It was covered under the L-cert warranty. You might be able to get a good deal on a certified 2013 in the next two weeks with both the end of the year internal incentives Lexus dealerships have for hitting their yearly numbers and because a certified 2013 wont be able to be sold as certified after the new year.

Default What to look for in a 2014+ GX460

Hey CL,

It’s been a long minute, but I’m looking to get back into a Lexus and the 2014+ GX is going to be the car for me. I’ve only read and seen how reliable this car. I haven’t seen 1UR-FEs in the way high mileage numbers yet, it looks like it’ll only be a matter of time before they reach the status of their 2UZ older brother.

I’ve read a few very rare anomalies regarding the transmission and transfer case issues, but what should I look for? I’m considering higher mileage GXs, ones in the 80-120k mile range.

Transfer case seepage, air suspension (if equipped), leaking coolant from timing chain cover

Good news, the powertrains in these beasts is damn near bulletproof... there are some reported issues with weapage here and there but they are not widespread and more than the exception than the norm...

Things I would look for in a GX in that age/mileage range are: (take a large piece of cardboard to lay on the ground (or low crawler) and flashlight during inspection)
General items
Perform a thorough review of the maintenance records (go to the lexus owners website and punch in the vin after creating an account) if I has no maintenance records or major missing gaps I wouldn't buy it.
Verify the undercarriage is mostly rust free,
Check the carfax is acceptable for you.

GX (Yota 4x4) specific items
Visually verify no CV axle boot leaks
Verify all the actuators and interior buttons work, exercise everything (CDL, CC (if equipped) 4L etc...)
Check for weapage to the maximum extent practical as already mentioned
Verify no active check engine lights

Lastly, unless the maintenance records indicate the following items have been recently serviced or replaced, deduct money from your fair marking asking price to get them covered
Update the factory Nav software (if it not the most recent version)
New tires
New brake pads and rotors
Radiator service
PCV valve replacement
Serpentine belt replacement
Engine and cabin air filter replacement
F&R Differential fluid and transfer case fluid changes

Other smaller items to perform after purchasing:
Clean Mass air flow sensor
Run some fuel injector treatment thru a tank of gas

Good luck and keep us posted on how your search goes... if there is any in the DFW area you want me to check out, let me know... lots of rust free cream puffs available down here in Texas that have never left pavement.

The TC seepage seems to be more common on the 470s from what I have seen and air suspension issues seem to be a lot less as well. This could be due to far less AVS/RAHC 460s then what was standard on the 470.

Water pump leaks in Toyota V8s in general these days seem to show up from time to time.

I'd tackle myself if mine starts to leak again. Mine was replaced under factory warranty at 38k miles.

Default Considering 2017 GX Luxury

EDITED
Hello all,
I currently have a 2015 GS 350 F Sport and I absolutely love it. I've always had a soft spot for the GX and I almost bought one back in Feb when I bought the GS but it didn't work out. We have our first kid coming in a couple of months and I know it would be a way more convenient car with a baby and my dog that we like to take places. A certified 2017 Premium (Nightfall Mica and black interior - my number one color combo choice which I rarely see) with captain chairs just popped up at a dealer near me with 21,000 miles. Price is $40,995.

Are there any things I should look for that could possibly be wrong with the car? Anything on 2017 models I should look out for? I know there was a lean issue, was that fixed by the 2017 model?

I was going to wait until I could get a used 2020 model because I like the front end and safety features but I'm not sure if I should pass this one up...plus it has the color/interior I want.

How does that price sound? It seems a tad high to me but I'd be getting the color choice that I want.

Post whatever codes you get

Do you know if this has been done yet? If not, you can request this fix on demand for a 10-13 model.

It could be just a bad O2 sensor.
